    • Hi brolan !

Currently, you can't flag a group of transactions. You can categorize and/or approve a group of transactions all at once, but flags have to be selected individually.

You can let our development team know you'd like to see this option by submitting a Feature Request. That form goes directly to them so they can consider it for a future update! :)

Faness Thanks for the reply.  Yet disappointing.  I use flags to make sure that I have obtained and filed receipts for tax related entries.  Without this feature (that was in YNAB4), it makes it way more time consuming.  I filed the feature request, but not holding my breath...

    • brolan Thank you for submitting that form! Just about every day, our development team goes through all of the requests they receive and code them. Then, in regular research cycles they analyze all this collected feedback to plan for what’s next  in YNAB.

I can't make any promises, but this will at least put it on their radar for future possibilities. :)

Faness Might be nice if the Up Next page would get updated... ;)

    • Ben Our next cycle starts in a couple weeks, so (no promises, but) we should see a few changes there soon. :)

  • This is driving me bananas, too.  I use flags regularly when marking credit card pending vs cleared transactions (before I can download the statement) as well as when I have reconciliation issues and have to manually go through the transactions to figure out where the mistake is.  It was available under the Edit menu in previous versions after marking multiple transactions.....seems like it would be simple enough to add to this version.  I've submitted the form for this, as well.

  • This remains something I would like to see.  I submitted a feature request for it some time ago, and the response resembles the chirping of crickets.  It's okay if it's just me, I'll live with it; but threads like this tell me I'm not the only one who would like this routine function of YNAB 4 restored.

I get why you can't restore functions that conflict with the change in philosophy and methodology that went into web YNAB.  But changing flags has nothing to do with the ways web YNAB works differently from YNAB 4, and seems like it ought to be such a minor program change that you'd just do it.

You could even point to it as evidence that your'e really making continual improvements as was promised when the move from one time purchase to recurring lease fee was implemented.

    • Patzer it definitely doesn't conflict with the Method :) But any change to the software impacts at least a dozen other areas, so every potential feature requires a lot of research and consideration. In the research phase we may explore analytics, ask questions here on the Forum, mock up ideas, do user testing, mock up more ideas, conduct an A/B test—whatever it takes to feel confident enough to start introducing the feature or solution into the wild.

We also carefully consider the impact any change may have on other features we currently have in development. We work in cycles, so while a feature may not be prioritized for development during one cycle, it may fall beautifully into the next because it aligns with other developments happening at that time.

All this to say, I hope you can understand why we can't make guarantees on ifs or whens. When we are certain of an upcoming change, we post it to our Up Next page. And we are very much listening and appreciative of your requests and feedback. So thank you!

Here's a link to our Feature Request form! That goes directly to our development team so you can let them know what you'd like to see in the future! :)

  • I have submitted this feature request and began months ago with submitting a help message which given the same treatment.  You can bulk edit multiple transactions for category, how difficult could it be to add flags?  It seems to be a matter of interest or desire.  Also if the features appeared in the forum or another system we could vote for them, however even companies with voting do not always respond quickly.

      Silver General

Can't be that difficult; Toolkit implemented it a few weeks ago.  I believe the comment by the Tookit programmer was something to the effect of, "After I started actually using flags, I realized how necessary this is."

Toolkit:  Implementing all the easy stuff that really ought to be part of the YNAB base program, but for unknown reasons never seems to make the cut for implementation in the base program.

Silver General Toolkit is a 3rd party web extension designed for YNAB.  It is available for Chrome (including Unix versions of Chromium) and Firefox.  You can choose which features of Toolkit to turn on or off; I find that when I turn Toolkit off entirely in order to test some feature of the base package of YNAB, I am invariably annoyed by some convenience I use that just isn't there in the base YNAB package.

If I were more cynical, I might say that YNAB does not need to implement changing multiple flags at once or running balances in the account register or display of dollars from upcoming scheduled transactions directly on the budget page because Toolkit gives me all of that.

Absent Toolkit, I would be praying that YNAB 4 will last forever; even though I know that sooner or later, Microsoft and/or Apple will break YNAB 4 and/or the YNAB Classic mobile app.  But Toolkit gives me 80% to 85% of what existed in YNAB 4 that I wish YNAB would have simply built into the web app.

  • Patzer I downloaded the Toolkit extension, but when selecting multiple transactions, the option to add a flag still doesn't come up, plus I have all these "E"s in my little box.  I'm super excited about Toolkit, but it's a little confusing and I appreciate any help!  I'm running the extension in Firefox because I haven't been able to download anything in Chrome for over a year, despite extensive troubleshooting.

Steel Blue Drill Many (most?) of the Toolkit options are off until you choose to turn them on.  At the top of your Firefox window, you should see a green "+" icon.

Click the green plus, and you get a popup.

Click "Open Setting" and you get another tab with the Toolkit settings.  Take some time looking at the options and deciding which ones you want.  You can always turn them back off if you don't like them, or disable Toolkit entirely.

Edit to add:  Having a tough time figuring out how to embed pictures where I want them in the stream of text.

  • I'd like to see the feature for flagging multiple transactions at once as well.   Flags are extremely helpful for having those budget review conversations.
