Sharing a budget with my partner
Hi
new on YNAB. I would love to learn How to share a budget with my partner. Anyone who can help?
Thanks!

Just ran through this thread looking for an answer considering it has been a topic for well over a year... makes me disappointed in YNAB... Responses from YNAB Support are not realistic and just plain bad digital security advice. Hopefully the YNAB staff doesn't listen to this advice with their employee logins...

This has been a very long standing issue on the forums. About the only other one that has a longer history was the changes from ynab4 which were formally addressed with, "it's not going to happen".
We haven't received that clarity on this one.
I've been trying to get someone in my life onto YNAB for years. They don't see the cost/benefit over the short trial run nor so they see any sense in entirely sperated accounts over the long term.
This issue is years old, years.
There's more than enough cases submitted for this to warrant development team review but you did caveat their efforts by saying it had to comply with the YNAB Method. Which allows for these to be summarily shelved.

Is this still a problem or has it been fixed? I login using Google, so it would be hard to share those login credentials with my partner. I clearly assumed incorrectly that since YNAB has so many articles on the importance of budgeting a joint life with that joint partner, there would be a way for us both to login and see the information?

To share your budget with your partner, you'll want to share your login credentials. As long as you're both logging in to the same account, you'll both have access to the budgets you've created and can make real-time changes! :)Can someone at YNAB help me with this?
Between my partner and I, only 1 person can be logged into the account at a time regardless of being on the mobile app or web-based version. If one of us tries to login when being logged in elsewhere, we get an incorrect password message. This is a rather frustrating thing to deal with and impacting our ability to get ANY value out of the platform.

For some reason I never read this thread before and just did. Wow. I can't believe the resistance to this much-requested functionality has gone on for so long. I feel like such an irresponsible parent not properly teaching my kids to budget, even though they've asked and know how hard I work on it. I just can't figure out a good method yet without being able to protect my budget from them, even if I change and share credentials (which is traumatic enough as it is).
I have an *extremely* curious 15 yr old who would just LOVE to dig through our finances. I doubt he'd mess anything up, but I think the temptation would just be too strong. I might be able to trust my younger daughter slightly more, but she's more the type to mis-click and leave disaster in her wake.
So I'm still procrastinating on teaching them properly, as I watch them overdraft on their debit card. Sad.

@Sea Green Case
To be honest, I've been waiting since this web version came out. It's been 2 or 3 years since the subscription model. So I don't why YNAB won't come out and say it, but to me it's obvious they aren't going to do it. At least the way everyone wants to share your budget. Hopefully you are using "Toolkit for YNAB" it makes the program much more tolerable,

I'm really sorry to see that separate logins for the same budget are not an option. Not everyone lives in a familial household or with their partner. My housemate and I are friends. While we share a mortgage and bills because it makes financial sense, we don't share our personal finances. This is such a limitation on the program and the use of Google logins doesn't help much, as some of us also don't use Google to log in to programs.
I've been using YNAB since the classic version, but with both of us pay for our own YNAB subscriptions, paying for a third just to have a shared budget is absolutely not on the cards. Maybe we'll use classic for that.

Is there no way to share a single Budget with someone in the new YNAB?A dedicated YNAB login for the shared budget would do it. Yes, that's more expensive, but it's certainly effective. Just how important it is to you? 🙂
(I believe continuing with YNAB4 is probably your best bet.)

A hearty, extra big +1 for user controls! Would love to maintain privacy over my own funds (my partner would like to do the same), whilst also managing a shared budget for combined interests. Any update on when this will be available? The current setup really isn't ideal for a whole niche of couples - a serious relationship, plotting and planning for the future, but not ready for "household" status yet.

I don't know who you are kidding. If you guys were serious, you would have done it by now. IT'S BEEN 3 YEARS. You sold it as once we go subscription we can push out updates galore. What a JOKE !! BUT you are taking our money yearly AND now what's the hurry, we get paid every year even if we don't produce what the people want. GOOD JOB.
