Can investment accounts be tracked with fluctuations

I keep my 401k accounts tracked in YNAB in order to give me a better picture of my total value. However, it is not ideal to have to reconcile the account all the time. These investment type accounts should automatically reconcile to show the true value of the account in my opinion.

  • Yes, they should.  But this is not what YNAB is good at, which is why I track net worth in Quicken.  Unfortunately, Quicken really sucks at budgeting; so I also need YNAB.  Just a case of needing two different tools for two different purposes.

  • Hi Spring Green Python !

For many investment and loan accounts, our Direct Import partner is only able to provide your current starting balance — or only certain types of transactions. They're working on improvements there!

I've found the easiest way to update those account balances, is to hover over the name of the account and click on the edit icon. In the box that pops up, you can edit the amount in the "Today's Balance" box and click save - that will automatically enter an account adjustment. You can also enter the account adjustment like this, which is quick and easy! :)

I do what Faness says once at the end of each month for all my investment accounts. It only takes a few minutes and I enjoy seeing my net worth over time.
