Exporting data FROM an account in YNAB

Hi All,

Newbie alert. I know I can export a Budget, but that only includes a sum of categories by month. It does not include the individual transactions.

Does anyone know how to actually download the transactions from an account into a spreadsheet?

e.g Jimmy Johns | Category: Fast Food | Amount 9.90 | Date: 12/14/2018

Hopefully this is clear.

  • When I use the "Export Budget" option I get a ZIP file that creates a folder with two CSV files. One is the Budget (the file ends in "~Budget.csv") and the other is the individual transactions, a file ending in "~Register.csv".  Does that not happen when you export?

    • Hi I Love Horses !

When JoeDid described is what should happen when you export your budget. If you open the second file that exports, you should see your transactions. If not, please let me know! :)

  • I am the biggest newbie of all time. I didn't even check the 2nd file. Yes, that's what I was looking for. Thanks.

I Love Horses 👍There are probably bigger newbies out there, but I'm glad you found it.

  • I would like to know how to export accounts separately. Two checking accounts and several credit cards. One csv export file with all transactions from multiple  commingled accounts requires extensive manual editing. Seems strange because YNAB can import QIF into a specific account. Why not export from that specific account?

    • Chris Royal You're right! The .CSV import with the transaction data contains all of your account registers. Using Google Sheets or Excel can help filter the information you need to specific accounts.

If you have a moment, this would make a great suggestion for our Product team. You're not alone here!

  • Found it. https://docs.youneedabudget.com/article/162-exporting-a-budget. Scroll down a bit to see "Export Transactions". Just select all your account transactions for a full account export.
