I really need help with credit card

When I go to my credit card account I have allocated all my credit card spend to a category thinking that this would cover the spend i.e. when I spend money on groceries I enter the spend against credit card and allocate it to groceries.

However, when I go to the credit card line in budget there is money showing under activity (same activity as what is showing in the categories) and the payment is amber.  I really can't understand why I don't have all the funds to cover the full credit card if they are all allocated to a category and think this has caused me to overspend on my credit card thinking it was covered.

I really need help as it doesn't make sense to me and I can't work out what to do from the instructions given.

  • Hi Turquoise Drill !

Sorry for the confusion! When first adding a credit card in YNAB, your Starting Balance needs to be budgeted for directly in the credit card category. The Starting Balance, plus all of your spending, should equal your total credit card balance.

If you plan to pay your credit card in full, take a look at this video. If you still have questions, or if things still aren't adding up, please let me know! :)

Nick True has taken YNAB videos to whole new level. Really cleared up a lot of questions for me:
