Setting to set "Monday first"

I've been looking in the forum and can't find any help. I can't believe I'm the first asking...

How can I set on the Web app to show the calendar with Monday the first day of the week... it is an International Standard (ISO 8601).... so is any way to change it?

  • Hi Hackerock !

There isn't an option to change the monthly layout in YNAB. In the calendar, dates run from Sunday-Saturday. We try to avoid toggle options when we can, but you can submit a Feature Request to let our development team know you'd like to see that option.

Hackerock . . . that’s not how they decide what new features to incorporate. Granted I don’t know how they decide, but it’s definitely not based on what would be easy to do. . .

jenmas I guess they don’t want only the US market.... half of the world has Monday first on their calendars... but it is their bussiness... it’s up to them... as well is up to them have happy costumers or not...  As well as very helpful community.... :-/

Hackerock Agreed. Though I'm afraid there's nothing we can do as a very helpful community beyond helping you find a workaround and more importantly understand what reasonable expectations are based upon our history of experience with the company. That the company doesn't make the choices that seem logical or helpful isn't something community members can control.

Faness Sunday is not the first day of the week. Why would you run it Sunday to Saturday?

    • Hi MiniMum !

US calendars run from Sunday to Saturday, so we've followed that trend. Sunday is considered the start of the week here, while Monday is considered the start of the work week. I understand that isn't the case everywhere, but there currently isn't an option to change that setting.

bevocat I prefer to start my week on Sunday. Starting a week on Monday seems like a bad idea. It's bad for the soul.

Dude!  There are only 52 Mondays in a year. Embrace them. Enjoy them. There are only 29 left in this year.

I'd rather be cheerful those 29 more times than grumpy on schedule.

Now we know.  The  g in lindsay_g stands for grumpy. 😄

There are only 5 Mondays left in 2019 (or in your case, 5 Sundays) and then 2019 is gone forever.  Mondays are the best! I get up at 7 a.m. on Mondays instead of the 5:30 a.m.  wake time I have to observe on Tuesday through Friday.  I love Mondays.

      The Late Heavy Bombardment

I suppose if you've used the same calendar format your entire life, it becomes a little subliminal and you don't pay attention, but it would result in some funny goofs in my budget if Saturday moved to where Friday is in my calendar.  I'm too accustomed to seeing Sunday as the first day of the week in the calendar layout.

HappyDance I agree. On some few sites/apps where the week begins on Monday I have to keep mindful that the last two days of the "so-called" week are the actual "week end."

Putting it that way seems so logical.

      JoeDid

Our office had a series of rather embarrassing and costly mistakes as a result of someone in IT setting the calendars to the ISO standard and a Monday start when we did a major system upgrade (a few years back). It was changed back  to a Sunday start PDQ once it was discovered, and it's still a sensitive subject, so no one mentions it....ever.

    • HappyDance Yeah I need to take back everything I said - I just realised how much I lose my carrot every time I'm forced to use mm-dd-yyyy instead of dd-mm-yyyy - so I should be able to understand how the layout of a calendar would have the same impact.

I'm in the start on Monday camp, because the weekend should be together. I didn't notice the Sunday start on this calendar probably because I'm searching for the date, not the day.

You can change your calendar to a Monday start if you use the YNAB Toolkit.

    I lose my carrot

This must be another of those for'n phrases, as it doesn't ring a bell with me, but I get your point: I lose my carota when I have to pull up a specific episode on an Italian site and see the likes of 07/06/2019, wondering how it is that a July 6th episode has been posted, and where is the June 7th episode I need.

JoeDid I had the same reaction to  Gold Rhythm when I saw the original post. I had to go searching for the calendar to start with and only then noticed it started on a Sunday. I normally just look for the number or type t for today. I naturally have calendars set to start on Monday but the whole start on Sunday thing is common enough that it doesn't throw me.

American dates though are a total mindf*** . If I'm agreeing reporting dates with the States, I insist on writing the month after famously being 27 days late one time! They hadn't chased us though which gives you an indication how small their UK subsidiaries were. YNAB may not like options but thankfully we do get date format options.

Sorry for the trouble! Since the Toolkit is developed by a third party, we aren't able to troubleshoot any issues with their features. Have you tried turning that feature off and then back on? Or restarting the browser? If you're still having trouble, the Toolkit website is the best place to look for answers.

Any properly done UIM would use the computer's default, so that it would be the least intrusive to the user. Of course, that does require global thinking and a bit more programming.
