Adding teens to YNAB

Hi!  I love  YNAB and want my kids to learn to budget too.  I want them to be able to use  YNAB, but I don't necessarily want them seeing our parental budget.  Is there a way to do this?

  • Hi AMG ! That's definitely an area that we are working to grow in, as you're absolutely right––teaching kids to budget is so important! 👏

At the moment, we don't have the ability to make budgets private, so we generally recommend just creating a separate budget in your account for your children.  This tends to work for most families, but I do hear what you're saying about wanting to keep your budget private and totally understand that. We are currently working on ways to improve the YNAB experience for families, so stay tuned!

  • I would also love to see this! It is so sad to think of going back to old tricks of excel sheets or worse products just to initiate my teen into the act and art of budgeting.

  • Our 10 year old has a budget on our account; I pull it up for him and we budget together. That way it limits his access to our budget but we are still able to teach him in the program.
