Tax withholding calculator

I found this very handy and wanted to share: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/tax-withholding-estimator

It was very close to our tax results this year, much closer than advertised estimate tools. Next year I'll have a lot of changes, so I want to be sure enough taxes are withheld.

  • Here is a good one for Canadian taxes.  This is the basic one. There is also a detailed one for more complex situations.

  • I used this at the beginning of last year and then part way through (as a progress check, of sorts). If not for an unexpected change in our tax situation, we would've been right on target to break even (about a $300 refund).
