What does this mean?

I received this message this morning.  It had pictures in it that were not working. I honestly live and day by scheduled transactions and have no idea what this means or how it will impact our budget/view.

Help?

Thank you,

Karen

Dylan from YNAB

It’s now faster and more convenient to show or hide your scheduled transactions—simply click on the scheduled transactions section header inside of an account!

Now that we have this new way to manage scheduled transactions, we wanted to give you the heads up that the scheduled transaction checkbox shown below will be removed from the filter menu soon.

Why the fanfare for a small change? After introducing section headers a few months ago, we’ve watched the scheduled transactions checkbox usage decrease significantly. However, we didn’t want to remove the filter menu option without first making sure everyone knew how to accomplish the same thing elsewhere. And that’s why you’re seeing this!

Thank you so much for using YNAB. ❤️

You'll be able to click on the header which says "scheduled transactions" to expand or collapse the list of scheduled transactions. Like a drop-down menu.

WordTenor I have always been able to do that. I don't understand what the change is.

  • I got the same message, which frankly is light on information but I didn't try to see what changed until I saw your post.  I don't see any difference, really.  I think once again, they have made a very small change to something that didn't seem to change.  More of "we helped you", but I wasn't having this issue.

If a YNABner sees this post, please explain changes to the system more clearly in the future.  Before and after screenshots would be the best.

P.S.  I use the scheduled transactions filter every time I look at at my transactions (bills) to be paid, so the removal of the filter impacts me in a negative way.  Just because it is low-usage, does not mean it is useless.  Perhaps, it is an education opportunity for YNAB.

Just my two cents, which I had to adjust my "I have an opinion budget" before writing this post.  LOL, rolling the the punches of an app provider!

  • If you click on filter, there is a checkbox for "Scheduled". Sounds like they are getting rid of that.

  • I was trying to interpret this message too, I think? I understand what they're trying to say but wasn't sure what they meant by "...After introducing section headers a few months ago....". What new section header feature are they talking about?

AnneR Maybe they meant the release note from April, I would guess

  • The drop down was added a long time ago but the checkbox in the filter was never removed. It's redundant functionality and now they are getting ready to eliminate the check box.

    • Herman Makes perfect sense.  Now maybe we will get a quick button for show/no show reconciled transactions.

ynaber2613 For people running the YNAB ToolKit, there's an option for that.  But yes, it would be nice if that were provided to everybody, regardless of whether they choose to use the toolkit or not.

  • I had the same problem too (see attached screenshot), and I don't have any ad blockers enabled for YNAB.  Where can we see those images that are missing?

    • James  Sorry for that image issue! The first one is supposed to show the section header with the drop down arrow next to Scheduled Transactions - like this:

While the second image is meant to show the Scheduled Transactions check box under the Filter option:

Since the header is an easier way to show and/or hide Scheduled Transactions, the check box option is being removed (as it's no longer necessary).

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask! :)

James  Thank you for posting this.  My original post would not display the broken image links.  Pictures do speak a thousand words.

    • Faness Can you do the same for reconciled transactions, I think we had that on YNAB 4.

ynaber2613 Yes, you can hide reconciled transactions

    • satcook  I know you can hide them, was just suggesting a quick show/no-show button like we had on YNAB 4.

    • ynaber2613 I can't make any promises, but we are looking into ways to make the register easier to navigate! You can also submit a Feature Request to run this by our Product Team directly. :)
