Two Budgets?

Hello, I am wondering the best way around having two budget templates, if possible. My husband is a truck driver owner operator and I would like to use YNAB to help manage those expense. Can one account have two templates or would the best option be to have two accounts, one for the family  and one for my husbands work?

  • A given account should only be in a single budget. Recommended practice is to use a separate set of accounts for work (checking and credit cards) and a separate budget. Everything is cleaner that way.

    You might get by with a business category group in your normal budget and accounts. This blurs the line between business and personal. If you want to track "paybacks" or loans to the business, this is NOT the approach to use.

    • By “account,” I think the OP means YNAB account, not bank account. 

  • I think you are asking if you can have two separate budgets under one login account. The answer to that is yes.

  • Hey Slate Blue Cleric - yup, you can open as many budgets as you want within one account! To create a new budget, just click on the name of your budget at the top left corner of the screen, and then select New Budget in the drop-down menu. 👍🏻
