How much is furniture assembly worth?
I'm thinking about starting a side hustle assembling furniture - IKEA and the like. I'm quite handy with a screwdriver and I'm pretty darn good at deciphering the instructions. Does anyone have an idea of how much is reasonable to charge for such services?
Hi TheTabby !
We just had a new deck installed and subsequently spent days assembling a table set, umbrella and sectional. The umbrella had a broken string, so it involved a trip to a hardware store, disassembling the entire thing, re-stringing it and then reassembling.
All that being said, definitely a service worth paying for and I think it would be best to charge by piece? To me, a couch sounds harder to put together than a table set, but our table set had 4 chairs, 4 ottomans and the table - the sectional is five larger pieces and was, admittedly, less work.
In hindsight, I could imagine paying someone $75 for each set ($150 total, or $30ish for 3-4 pieces), but that may be way underpriced - I'm pretty frugal. I could see myself happily paying that amount, but can also imagine a cost over $200.
Good luck getting started! There's definitely a demand for assembly! :)
TheTabby I would pay for this service, for sure. I agree with the consider what others are charging thoughts, but, I would add to this a menu of additional service you might help with... hanging pictures, moving pieces of furniture, etc. (you'd have to come up with your own menu of what you're comfortable doing, and what you're able and good at.... it could even be as simple as helping someone get ready for a housewarming or some other celebration.... can you bake a pie? ;)) Then offer that as a bonus.
