A little victory first month in

Its my first month using the app faithfully and I’ve managed to spend only $60-100 on groceries for the last three weeks for a family of three.  Of course, I’d like to spend more but because I’m budgeting I know that, right now, I can’t.  On a typical month, I would’ve overestimated our avaialable funds and ended up having to borrow money to make ends meet.  This month, we are headed for meeting the ends ourselves!

I am not someone who is going to end my first month on YNAB with my emergency fund all full or anything like that.  A lot of people post and they are able to save that kind of money.  I’m sure there are other beginners out there that, like me, won’t see that kind of success until months from now.  This month, for us, not having a panic attack over money in the middle of the night is the best I can do.  And for us, that’s a win!

  • Sounds like you're getting the hang of it already - it takes a little discipline, or changing your behavior/habits, but soon you'll be able to buy all the groceries you want :)

  • This is a marathon, not a sprint.  You'll get there.
