Is anyone successful in tracking RSU(restricted stock unit) as part of the income inflow?

Having it as part of Income vs Expense Report, gives a clear idea of the gross income, and taxes you are liable to pay, and helps in better tax withhold planning.

Challenges with this is, updating price on the close of that day, multiplying by the number of stock units, etc...

I feel having Income vs Expense Report clearly representing the ordinary income is helpful.

  • Google Sheets is a better place to monitor this. It can pull in realtime stock quotes.

  • nope, no success here. I keep track in google and if we sell them then it hits my account and gets sent to "to be budgeted." With the vesting schedule, I like to keep that all in Excel so I can forecast futures years grants.

Sky Blue Harp Ask and yeeee shall receive.

I created a template off of my spreadsheet in Google Sheets. Make sure to make a copy of this to your personal Google Drive and don't edit directly in the template (I think I set permissions up to where you can't🤔).

Also, I filmed a video walkthrough of the spreadsheet so you know how to get rolling with it. I love doing stuff like this!

I hope you get as much fun out of messing around and forecasting your RSUs as I do! Let me know if this helps!

      :)

    • Wiecked Wow, thank you so much. This is so detailed oriented, and specially the professional video for the explanation. Just today morning, i created a raw spreadsheet, but this template of yours is much better and re-usable for long term. Appreciate your valuable time on this.🙌 I will convert my raw data into this, so that I can make more sense out of it.

Sky Blue Harp YAY! Glad that it can be of use to you! Anything for a fellow YNAB buddy. I geek out on spreadsheets sometimes. Feel free to reach out if you get stuck :)

  • I simply created an account called "RSUs" and update the balance as "Cash" every four months or so. RSUs are simply an alternative form of compensation really in the old days: It is equivalent to your boss saying, "Work hard and you'll get a nice promotion/raise in six months"

  • @wiecked The spreadsheet looks awesome. What I am having the most difficult time is creating a sheet that forecasts out the next 7 years of receiving RSU’s (mostly the same amount each year) and calculating them vesting and potentially selling each year and the rolling total.  Do you have something like that?
