If you have 5 entries for the same spending category, how do you do it for all at one time vs 1 by 1 by 1 by...

  • NM, I found that if you highlight all then go to the Edit menu, you can select the category to assign many entries.

    Sorry about that Chief....

  • Not sure what you mean. If these are separate transactions, record them separately. OTOH, if a single transaction should impact more than one category, make that a split transaction, putting each category and its portion of the total on separate split lines.

  • Lets say you have 5 dining out entries to the same take out place. You have 2 options:

Approve them 1 at a time or

Highlight them all, select Edit then Categorize then pick the Category you want them to be in.

    Sorry for not being clearer!

    • Khaki Pegasus After this, YNAB should fill in the last category used when this payee imports. This works well for a take-out place since the category is probably always the same.

Be careful, though, for places like Target, Walmart, etc. where that auto-filled category may not be appropriate. Personally, I'll manually record right then and there so I don't have to remember what category is appropriate later on. The import will simply match the one I entered and not make a duplicate.
