Forest Green Thunder You did not click on a report. You clicked on a button under the Quick Budget menu that told YNAB to budget in this month what you spent last month. The Reports are found when you click on the word Reports on the left side of your screen.

As for fixing it, it's going to be a manual process. The way I would do it isn't helpful for your since I budget the same every month so I just have to look at the budget (left column) last month to tell me what to put in this month. Are all your account reconciled? If so, it might be easiest to empty all of your categories down to zero and then look at last month's available balances in each column and allocate so that matches. That will leave money in TBB and I would just allocate from there. But others might have a better idea.

  • Hi Forest Green Thunder !

We don't currently offer phone support, but we do have a live chat feature. In the web app, click the question mark near the bottom right of your budget, select Send a Message, and you'll see the option to chat if a member of our Support team is available. If you're on our mobile app, tap the Help icon on the bottom right, then scroll down and tap Chat with Us.

This chat is a newer feature so the option to chat isn't always available. If you don't see the option to chat, we can definitely answer your questions here or through email, at help@ynab.com.

As jenmas mentioned, it sounds like you might have accidentally clicked on one of the Quick Budget options? This probably won't help now, but might come in handy for the future. If you're in the web app, you can click the undo button at the top of budget—though, that will only work before you refresh your browser or log out.

To get your budget back on track, reduce the amounts in your Budgeted column until To be Budgeted is $0.00. Once you get that last $800.00 removed, you should be good to go. Make sure to double check your categories and move money around, if needed.

    • Forest Green Thunder So glad to hear that things are looking better. Chat is on whenever we have a team member who is available! If you’re not seeing the chat option, it may be that we’re offline (we don’t yet have 24/7 coverage), or that all our team members are already chatting with other users. Chat is relatively new for us, so we're still figuring out our best coverage plans based on demands.

If you want any help double checking your budget just let me know!

Chrissy Do those quick start budget links prompt before executing? Like "You are about to BLAH. Is that what you want to do?". I would hate to click on of those are really mess up my budget.

RIP_MSMoney They do warn if you use the Toolkit to activate that option. I don't know if native YNAB warns (sounds like it still doesn't) but I've had the Toolkit option turned on ever since I read a post where someone else ruined their budget by being inquisitive and clicking on the near-irreversible change.

    • RIP_MSMoney The Quick Budget options don't have a prompt. If you'd like to experiment with those, or don't like the results—you can always use the undo/redo buttons at the top of your budget in the web app! Please note, though, that those will only work before you refresh your browser or log out.

Nicole A tenuous solution at best, and useless for anyone who either doesn't read this or other threads where it's addressed, or know about the option to (quickly) undo the last and only the last action. It's really inexcusable to have such an option execute without warning or instruction on how to undo.

This aspect greatly concerns me. My spouse and I both use this app. More hands in the pot means more chances for errors. I don't like the aspect that a single button click can make massive changes.

RIP_MSMoney There are not a lot of safeguards in YNAB.  Undo as mentioned works only during the current session and you cannot restore a saved backup file.  That one really puzzles me, why offer a backup but not provide a method to restore that backup????  YNAB4 had multiple restore points.  I am also concerned about the iPhone app as you can do some damage to the budget if you are not paying close attention.  I sent a request a long time ago to provide the option to just allow the entering and deleting of  transactions rather than allowing someone to change the budget or even delete the budget.

That would be great! That is how we would use it. Mobile for my family would be solely to enter transactions. That would be a huge safeguard!!!!

YNAB has indicated that they don't like the idea of any sort of customization which is why there are no toggle options available.
