Veronica at YNAB Are these solutions expected to take months and months, if not years (hello promises of better reimbursement handling in 2017 and fixing SFTF in 2016, or the time the development team broke split transactions with transfers in the mobile app and it took months to fix)? To date, the organization does not have a track record of rolling things out quickly. If a person has red/green color blindness, what are they supposed to do right now?

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for how the color changes are being handled.  You rolled out an untested solution for people with red-green color blindness, immediately got feedback from such people that this "solution" made things worse, and then . . . did nothing.  You are considering another solution that will "work for everyone," in spite of people having diverse needs and YNAB having a history of refusing to implement customer-configured options. 

Meanwhile, Isaac C.  came up with a CSS solution that rolled back to the old colors, then modified it to make it parameter-driven so people could choose what colors work best for them.  That was enough of a start for me to develop some rudimentary CSS skills, and address my long-term low-level nuisances of budget pills not telling me anything useful and being rather distracting.  As a result, I now have what I need in the way of colors in YNAB:  Black text on white background for positive Available, red text on white background for negative Available, no distracting pills, and no visual distinction between credit and cash overspending.  Perfect.  The only color warning I need is for overspending; goals as implemented in YNAB are not sophisticated enough to help me with budgeting.  Oh, and I had to tone down the highlighting of selected categories, but I figure that out.  So now, selected and unselected positive and negative Available numbers let me focus on the numbers, and not on the stupid goal nags.

Thank you again for the incredible attitude that customer needs are irrelevant, or at least far less than urgent.  It has produced a better result for me than the multiple Feature Requests asking to turn off icons, eliminate goal nag orange, etc.

Veronica at YNAB Your product team needs to include some people who understand project management, user experience, customer service, and basic programming. It clearly doesn't at this point and you guys are doing nothing to fix the broken product you've forced on us all. 

I've gone from having YNAB in an open tab most of the time to rarely looking at it due to this horrendous, clearly untested, change in colors and all you've done is remove posts with valid complaints and threaten people. Grow up and learn how to do basic customer service or you're going to lose market share to someone who does.

No, I don’t expect the solutions to take months or years, but I’m not going to make any timeline promises. We will keep everyone posted in the threads here in the forum every couple of days.

For folks with red/green color blindness, advice you’ve probably heard many times before applies in the meantime: don’t rely on color to determine the status of your category available amounts. You'll want to use the icons that indicate an unmet goal or an underfunded obligation or the negative available amount to indicate overspending. 

Most importantly, if a user hasn't reached out to us yet to tell us that the changes impacted their ability to use YNAB, I would urge them to do so. The best email is [email protected].

To clarify, our team is working on multiple solutions since this isn’t a one-size fits all issue. If nothing else, feedback from YNABers has indicated how truly varied their needs are when it comes to visuals. Changing our minds is one of our core values and while there are reasons to be cautious about options and configurations (potentially slowing future development being the most significant), it’s been a larger part of our plans of late.

I don’t know if these solutions will allow you to configure the budget in the way you have through Isaac’s CSS edits, though. I’m glad you were able to get the look you wanted within your budget.
