Open Banking for direct banking in the UK

Hi

Now that the UK has started Open Banking , does YNAB have any plans to support it?

Yolt is already making great strides here, and I anticipate that there will be a flurry of similar apps/services.

Thanks

    • Hi Tetsugaku !

We are listening and we understand the outcry for support of direct import for international financial institutions, but it isn't something we're able to accomplish in this moment. We'll continue to look into options to improve, but we know this won't be an easily accomplished feat.

    • Hi Alice Blue Piccolo !

We're sorry did see you go, but we understand if YNAB isn't what you're looking for at the moment. We care about all of our customers, regardless of where they live, but I understand if you don't feel that way. We'll continue to work on alternatives for international import and, while it may take us a while to get there, I hope you'll give YNAB another try once that day comes.

  • Same, I thought I could get back into manual logging after the last renewal but I've decided to finally move on. Doesn't matter how hard I try, at some point life catches up and I get behind. Eventually it snowballs. I live by the principles but I can now manage that without a subscription service.

    • Hi Slate Blue Camera !

We're sorry to see you go, but we completely understand your decision. The Four Rules are the foundation of YNAB and if you're following them, we believe you'll succeed no matter how you choose to apply them. We wish you well on your budgeting journey, no matter where it may take you! :)

  • YNAB's direct import partner does not know what they are doing - that's why we don't see better integration for other banks.

That YNAB keep using them - that should be the question on the lips of all users and investors. Smacks of bad decision making.

  • For what it's worth, I'm UK-based and nYNAB American Express import *does* work for UK Amex cards, so i've found a pretty workable system that's fairly little effort.

First, I have an Amex cashback card for all my day-to-day spending (a very few things go to a backup Nationwide Visa credit card, but almost everywhere I shop accepts Amex these days, much better than it used to be). Secondly, I then have all my monthly / annual direct debits set up as scheduled transactions on my main current account. So almost all my transactions are automatic in nYNAB, Amex gets imported automatically, and the scheduled direct debits roll on to the account on their due date. Only a handful of transactions don't come in via one of those two routes, manual ad hoc transfers to savings accounts and the occasional Visa transactions that get entered manually, and I hardly ever use cash.

So, not perfect (and I would like to see full import for non-US customers!), but the fact that Amex import works correctly cuts out a lot of work for me once the scheduled payments are all set up.

Falconar it's worth noting, that amex integration will stop working very soon due to the new SCA regulations sadly.

    • Scott Robertson  are you saying the built-in Amex YNAB integration will stop working, or are you saying the Sync4YNAB Amex integration will stop working as well??

Steel Blue Crab the Sync for YNAB will be migrated to Open Banking very soon, as soon as it's released by the data provider.
