Any chance we are going to get Dark/Night Mode in the very near future? 馃槉

  • Hi duwie !

Our What鈥檚 Up Next list doesn't currently list a Dark/Night Mode, but that doesn't mean it couldn't make it there in the future! When you have a moment, would you mind submitting a Feature Request for our development team? In the meantime, I know there are a few apps out that allow you to turn your computer settings into a makeshift Dark Mode that may help. :)

  • +1 for dark mode, both on native apps and on the web site!

  • This is not in any way essential to the fundamental core functions of budgeting, so I would guess that the likelihood the team will focus on this soon is very high.

WordTenor However, super easy to do.  So, I have at least passing hope.

  • BTW, you can use Stylus and apply a custom theme.  This is the link for Firefox, but I'm sure there are Chrome versions as well.

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/styl-us/

Here is a sample YNAB style: https://userstyles.org/styles/125509/ynab-dark-blue

Note you do not want to download "Stylish" (they track your web activity).  However, "Stylus" is open source.

Saish Dawg You just decreased the chance that Night Mode will be added as a native function.  YNAB apparently has a de facto policy of making no improvements that are already provided by a 3rd party web add-on, i.e. Toolkit.

Patzer I would be pleasantly surprised to find I had any such influence.  Or that such a policy existed.  :^)

Saish Dawg The policy is inferred from YNAB's inaction on common requests, and the disappearance of complaints about missing features after Toolkit provides them.  I doubt it's written or official, but it does seem to be the way things actually happen.  Or fail to happen, depending on how you view things.

Patzer I figured.  This is not Toolkit functionality per se, so perhaps the software development powers that be will be gracious to us.

Saish Dawg I looked for a Night Mode option in Toolkit, didn't see it.  There is a Colour Blind mode, but I don't see any difference in my budget from turning it on or off, possibly because I have arranged to not have any ugly orange, yellow, or red ovals already.

I think there's a better chance of getting Toolkit to put in a Night Mode than of getting YNAB to add it to the base package.  Bonus, if Toolkit does it they will make it optional; YNAB tends to make any changes mandatory for the entire user base.  See, goal nag icons that I had to code CSS to eliminate.

Patzer It is not in the Toolkit.  Rather, Stylus is a Firefox (and Chrome, I think) general purpose add on/extension.  It swaps the CSS (styling for the web page), and it works for hundreds of sites, not just yNAB.  You install the extension, and there are, I believe, four themes available to alter how the web site looks, including a dark mode.  (Note there is another similar plugin called Stylish that you do NOT want to install as it tracks your browsing history).  Separately there is in fact a dark mode in the Toolkit.  It is for the Toolkit itself (which is not all that useful since I rarely have it open).  I do not use that dark mode as it prevents the dialog to copy/paste settings in unusable.
