Positive To be Budgeted amount in the previous month?

Hello! I am new to YNAB an this is my first month roll-over.  I enjoyed budgeting for the new month and now I stumbled over a strange thing. Even though I budgeted every dollar, well Euro in my case, suddenly I have a positive amount in the to be budgeted area of the previous month (June). And in June it appears as a negative amount here: -9,50€ overspent in June and it is also substracted from the funds in July.

Does that mean that I have to go back to June an budget those 9,50 in the future?

Thank you!

  • Hi Ivory Lobster !

It sounds like you may have overspent in one of your categories. When you have a moment, take a look at June and search your Available column for any red Available amounts.

You can either budget to cover the overspending in June or leave it as is in July. When the month rolls over, any red overspending from the previous month is automatically subtracted from your To Be Budgeted in the new month. This means you can leave it as is in the new month, because it has already been covered, or cover the overspending in the previous month so that you aren't seeing that negative - either way will work! :)

We also have an article about when the month rolls over, so check it out and let me know if you have any other questions!

  • Hi Faness! Thank you very much - that is exactly what happens. It was way down in my list so I didn`t see it. I love this App!
