Rejecting Transactions

I'm a YNAB4 user, and until recently, have had no trouble importing transactions.  However, I have three transactions my bank import continues to pick up, even though I've shown everything on the bank statement.  If I were to accept these new transactions (which are duplicates of other transactions), then my balance in YNAB would be off from the bank balance.  I have rejected these transactions time and again, but when I import again, they come back.  Does anyone else have this problem?

  • Can't say i've had that problem but can you accept them and then delete them?

  • Hi Elizabeth Honeycutt ! I’m happy to help!

What file type are you using to import in YNAB 4? When you use a QFX, OFX, or QIF file, it will catch duplicates and not re-import previously imported transactions.

Are the transactions in your register ones you've previously imported and matched, or entered yourself?

    • Hi, Nicole !  Thank you so much for responding. :).  I'm downloading a QFX file.  My bank gives me an option of the following choices: QFX, QBO, OFX, and then spreadsheets.

Are you able to open that file outside of YNAB? If so, do you see those transactions listed multiple times in the file? Duplicate transactions are support to be skipped automatically. However, in order for a transaction imported via a file to be skipped, it needs to have the exact same date and amount. If the transaction has a different date in the file then it will import again.

If you have trouble opening that file or would like for us to take a look, we can reach out via email so you can send us the file without sharing it on the forum. :)

    • Faness The file won't open for me outside of YNAB, even if I close YNAB4, it still pulls up the program to open it. :(

    • Elizabeth Honeycutt Are you able to right click and open it in a different program? Like Excel,  or Google Sheets. I reached out via email, so we can look closer!
