Filter Feature request on categories

Hi, it would be great in the budget view if you could filter by category state, I often want to filter by over budget (credit card) so I can reallocate money from another category.  Right no I have to scroll and look at the yellow icons and see which one is showing "budget more".  It obviously works now, but I often get 2 or 3 categories that go over and I need to adjust and it would be faster if I could filter.

  • I asked for this when I first started - to be able to choose to sort categories in order of overspending, then underfunded upcoming transactions, then underfunded goals, etc. You are welcome to make a feature request (there's a form on the home page of the forum)

There are a couple fairly easy solutions, though.

The mobile app does a really nice job of isolating overspend categories and making it easy to move money. So if I was inputting a lot of transactions at a time, I'd do that on the computer and then pick up my phone to quickly move the money for overspending.

Really, though, after I got used to YNAB, I got better at keeping everything reconciled and covering "overspending" as I made the purchase.

  • Not sure how that would help, since you need to see the non-overspent categories to do anything about it. 🙂

Perhaps a better suggestion is a summary of both cash and credit overspending for the current month in the header (so it's obvious there's a problem). Then a click to set the focus on the next instance of overspending, unhiding/uncollapsing/scrolling as needed.

dakinemaui I remember which categories are not overspent, + you can see it in the drop-down when you choose a potential category to fund with.
