Question for Nintendo switch adults

I just saw a circle controller thing that comes with an exercise game. I HATE exercise but thought this might be a solution for me. Anyone have this? If so, what are your thoughts?  Or should I try to find a resale Wii Fit?

  • Confession: I got excited just reading this thread title. 😅

I've heard good things about the Ring Fit and we've talked about getting one, but haven't actually purchased it. Instead, we've been playing Just Dance and I have no regrets. It's great for cardio and once you learn the songs you can piece together a work out to target what you're looking for ('Ma Itu' is for leg day and 'God Is A Woman' on Expert is the hardest 3 minute arm work out I have ever made it through 😆).

If we decide to get the Ring Fit anytime soon I'll check back in!

Faness What’s your favorite Switch game? I finished Breath of the Wild but I need to get back to Super Mario Odyssey one of these days. Even though I beat it, I know there’s a lot I haven’t seen.

    • Superbone You're asking the hard questions! Breath of the Wild was beautiful but I never finished it. With bias, I'd have to say Story of Seasons (for nostalgia) but Pokemon and Animal Crossing have claimed a lot more of my time. We also use Mario Kart to settle all household disputes. 😆

Faness Same! I was like "are we starting a YNAB gamer thread? Because we can start a YNAB gamer thread!"

MXMOM The Ring Fit is actually a surprisingly good workout. I did not like the Wii Fit at all, so I definitely think the Ring Fit is a much better attempt at a fitness game. I actually feel like I was working muscle groups. Plus it's fun!

Tobias thanks. Totally the kind of info I needed. Bonus for the wiifit review. I’m surprised xgirlmama hasn’t jumped in but she’s way over on the west coast and probably just waking up.

I don’t have a switch so I would have to buy one (see what I did there, made a gaming device an exercise device). I’m not a gamer. I prefer to fall down internet blog and YouTube holes instead (plus spend time here). The one game I do play on my iPad is so boring and repetitive but I use it to distract my mind from me.

    • Tobias We can Definitely start a YNAB gamer thread! There is never a bad time to have a YNAB gamer thread! 😂

MXMOM I think gaming exercise is easier to stick with because it's inclusive by nature. I can't invite my husband to walk on the treadmill with me, but he will challenge me to a dance off in a heartbeat. 😆 The videos I've seen of the Ring Fit have the same vibe of couch gatherers and cheering. And thanks to this thread it's now officially on my shopping list. 😅

  • I have Ring Fit Adventure (and I play Animal Crossing on the daily ...), and it is an actual workout if you set the difficulty levels appropriately.  Changing the difficulty is easy, can be done at any time, and you will see results equal to the amount of effort you’re willing to put out.

    • TechieM2 Animal Crossing is one of my favorite franchises :) I unlocked terraforming on my island, razed everything and made a blank slate.  Flattened all the hills, filled in the rivers.  Then I built it all back up again, decorated, decided I wanted a change, and did it again.  I’m currently working on finishing decorating from the second re-build.

I hosted a trick-or-treat party for my friends for Halloween.  Had over 100 different goodie bags for people to find and take home (10 bags of 10 different colors), and decorated the whole island with the Spooky series.  Haven’t decided yet if I want to go through that level of effort again for Christmas.

    • Purple Device It sounds like you really spoiled your friends for Halloween! They are lucky to have you - I can't imagine a better way to spend a Halloween indoors.

I was super excited to see the Christmas update and I'm hoping it motivates me to open the game sometime in December. 😅

I've thought of getting Ring Fit Adventure myself as well, but last I looked it was still selling for more than a Switch.  *sees price is back to normal and in stock*  *looks at Amazon rewards balance*  *orders*

  • I have Ring Fit and it is indeed a good strength training workout. I usually do a 45 stationary bike ride and one level of Ring Fit and I'm wiped. Those squats get you. The "game" plays like a simple RPG with progression and strategy (later in the game you match exercise colors with enemy colors to deal the most damage), but it's engaging enough to want to keep playing.

  • Oh man, I’ve been wanting a Switch and my doctor says I need to get more exercise. I wonder if I can pay for this with my HSA? 😇

  • I have ring fit, I do enjoy it, but find it does take a long time to get a decent amount of exercise time (a lot of the time is spent in dialogue/menus and walking/jogging). I also have fitness boxing on the switch, which I feel like gives me more of a workout in the same amount of time, but only my core and upper body (and is a bit more repetitive although they do try and vary it with different punches and ducks and weaves)
