How to enter a credit card transaction that will be paid over months

So here's the story. We have a Best Buy CC. We just made a purchase and it has no interest for 24 months. I'm planning on taking that total, dividing by 24 and making montly payments. Heres the issue. I have the CC setup as a linked account so when that transaction (for the purchase) came in, i had to assign it a category and that category now shows negative. I assume this will show negative until the CC is paid in full.

Is there a better way of doing this? Maybe not setting up as a linked account and only a tracked account?

  • That category will only show negative until the end of the month, as of Aug. 1, that category will be zeroed out and the credit card balance will be higher than the amount available to pay by that amount. After that, it will just be a matter of paying down the credit card debt by assigning money directly to the credit card category so that it's available to pay off the card each month.

  • I would either make it a tracking account or move money from the cc payment category to turn off the overspending warning.
