Fun and Creative Budget Templates

Hello everyone I wanted to see everyone’s fun and creative ways that they budget their everyday lives. It’s 2020 I wanted to see new ways that help other people and the amazing ideas that they use. I currently use the budget moms template in YNAB but I want to see what other people use as their personal budget template.

    There's templates in YNAB?

    • Khaki Storm  well you could you the generic YNAB template when you make a new budget. Immediate Obligation, True Expenses, etc. or you could make one of your own that works for you. Some people create the most creative budget structures and some that are funny but also creative.

Ace Of Spades Yes, I can imagine. I just thought the long-awaited true template had come to be. I mean a template that I could set up and share with others or the whole community.

  • Hey, Ace Of Spades ! That's an awesome template! Could you please let us know where you found it so the original creator gets credit (and a link)? Thanks!

  • Maybe I'm simple, but this says to me, "Do double work! Write it all here, and then enter it into YNAB."

    • JoeDid Says the person who uses both YNAB4 and nYNAB concurrently?

I definitely don't make good, contemplative planning decisions on YNAB. Something to do with setting all the categories at once and playing with scenarios means paper > screen for me.

Move Light Sound Life Touché. I didn't make my reasoning clear, which is that, for me, the tools for that exist in YNAB. I'd rather do it there, where my categories exist already, and not have to transcribe anything later. To each their own, but I've given up on pencils and erasers, in favor of keyboards with backspace and delete keys.

    • JoeDid We all learn differently! Some folks don't have all their bill information in one place when they're getting started, and writing it out first can help. Or love the tactile aspect of paper and don't mind!

I do that with my calendar, with a digital and paper version. 😉

  • To me, the only thing that makes this fun and creative is that it is colorful and laid out well. Maybe we just need YNAB to add some new customizable budgeting layouts. The stock budgeting screen looks pretty boring.

  • I don’t know about others, but my wife and I have been married for 52 years and have always used a budget. I really like YNAB because, once it is set up, it is simple.  We have about 96% of transactions on automatic -- income, expenses, except for those I prefer to have my fingers on during the month.  Having been through some rather turbulent years financially, believe me, we love a budget that is simple and BORING.  Most of our expenses are set up for payment within the first week of the month and the rest of the month is boring.  I love it.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • Oh, and I do keep a monthly projection template, just a simple income, expense template I’ve used for decades, which requires just a few minutes at the end of each month to make needed adjustments.
