Chase Credit Card Import Issue

After a recent update to Chase accounts in YNAB, my Chase Card is importing what should be "Outflows" as "Inflows" into my budget.  In other words, anything I charge on the card shows up as an "Inflow".  I have to manually change all of the transactions every time now. I tried unlink and re-link the account, but that didn't work. Everything was working fine a few days ago.

Anyone else having a similar problem with their Chase transactions lately?

  • Hi everyone!

If you're seeing issues with swapped inflows and outflows, or duplicates importing, please use our form to report a Bank Importing Issue. This way our Direct Import team can take a look at your account connections and help get things back on track! :)

  • I should mention that it is an Amazon Prime card through Chase Bank, in case that makes a difference.

  • I'm seeing the same issue with my Chase Freedom Unlimited after updating with the new authentication that was required this week.

  • I’m seeing the same issue with two of my chase cards, one chase Amazon and one regular chase. This occurred after I had to re-authenticate my chase accounts yesterday. I’m even having transactions coming into my regular chase card as inflows that should be coming into my chase Amazon card as outflows.

  • I wonder if that is my issue too (I can't get the actual balance on the card to match).  I know Chase has been causing duplicate issues for me and when I try to manually import it duplicates everything instead of matching.

  • Same here. Started after re-authentication.

On Saturday this was limited to "Pay with my Chase Plan" transactions (seems to be offered on transactions above $100), but this morning is everything and just a big mess

Faness Thanks - I did log it this morning. Exact same issue as described above

  • Glad I'm not the only one.

I seem to be having issues with just 1 of the 2 Chase cards I have linked to YNAB (Chase Sapphire); my checking and savings accounts have not been impacted.

***I've submitted a Bank Importing Issue***

    Things to note:

    - I didn't have this issue until I had to re-auth my Chase account over the weekend of Oct 24/25

    - Transactions going back a week that I've already cleared are showing up as both Outflows AND Inflows

    - My recent payment is showing as both an Inflow AND Outflow

I really don't want to edit/adjust/delete any of these for fear of it throwing off my budget.

  • I've reported this as a Bank Importing Issue as well. We are seeing Chase accounts which seemed to import transactions as both inflow and outflow. The manual imports (QFX files) appear to work as expected and don't require the inflow/outflow to be swapped - but the interface still shows the transactions as pending import.

It's been relatively inconsistent, but hopefully can be addressed soon.

    • Gav Thank you for bringing this up! File-Based Importing usually bypasses any issues that direct import may bring, which allows for a temporary work around while our Direct Import team digs in. Hopefully they'll have more details to share soon!

    • Gav Faness Jen from Support walked me through the issue yesterday and I just had to reconnect all my accounts with Chase. Not a big to-do. It only impacted 1 of my 2 cards with Chase so clean-up was minimal.

However, this morning, the issue happened again but to my other credit card under Chase. Support has not contacted me on this one yet but clean-up is going to be a chore:

      - more transactions that are wrong

      - some of the transactions go back as far as September

      - some of the transactions are from my checking account and not the credit card account

What is your experience with the file-based reporting? My fear is it will throw EVERYTHING out of whack - even more-so - for that card.

    • YNAB_User 5150 Sorry you're still having trouble here! File Based Importing skips any previously imported transactions and won't import transactions from before your last reconciliation (so should prevent any duplicates from importing).  It will also show you a preview of the transactions before they import and you can use the Undo button if anything looks out of whack afterwards.

I hope you'll give it a try and let me know what you think!

  • Still works for me although I seem to have lost the new "Pending Transactions" import in the process

    • Hi Agger !

If you already had the Pending Transactions feature in your budget, they'll be back! The Pending Transaction header disappears when there aren't any Pending Transactions available (and reappears once they are).

Thank you @Faness! I am sure you're right, but it's not how YNAB has behaved since the error. Pending transactions worked just fine before, but since I re-authenticated, I have not had a single pending transaction downloaded. I use that particular credit card for most things and I have transactions on it most days, and when visiting Chase.com there are several pending transactions listed there.

Agger I'm seeing the same thing on my Chase Amazon Prime CC. Haven't seen pending transactions for a while now. Just cleared transactions. Four cleared transactions just showed up today for example.

  • This morning, I think my card imported backwards again - I guess Chase (or your provider) 'fixed' it?

    • Jim Z I'm not sure what you mean by 'backwards', but if your'e still having trouble with Chase you can reach out to our Direct Import team to let them know.

Faness So: 2 weeks ago, my Chase card was coming in where inflows were outflows and vice versa (as this thread covers). There was a patch put in to YNAB to fix the situation a few days later.

Today my imports were again backwards - inflows are outflows and vice versa. My Chase checking is fine.

    • Jim Z Aha, we call that "swapped". And it stinks. Be sure to fill out our Bank Importing issue form, if you haven't already, and we can get to work on it right away.

  • This just happened to me tonight for the first time on this card. I got two weeks worth of swapped transactions that were previously received and cleared tonight. I sent an email via the app.

  • I've been a YNAB user for many years and am bummed about the current position I'm in.  It's been a month now unable to import Chase Checking account transactions, which is basically all my budget transactions.  I've filled out the direct import ticket twice now and performed all the troubleshooting steps sent to me, investing a great amount of time as it takes like 10-15 min every time I retest the connection to link.  I am very very frustrated at this point after years of great response from the development team/support, I feel like their is no end in sight and it's time to start looking for another product when I can't even get more help than standard troubleshooting email.  Over a month and no one has even posted an update in the Status page for the Chase issues.  So sad, I really don't want to leave YNAB, but without auto import and no end in sight or legitimate response there is a fix on the horizon what choice do I have ??

    • Hi Coral Viper !

Sorry for the trouble! Our Direct Import team is taking a look at this issue, but we can't say for certain when things will be back up and running smoothly. Have you had a chance to give File-Based Importing a try? I also bank with Chase, and downloading the file takes me maybe two minutes from start to imported in YNAB (and much less stressful than fighting with the connection).

  • Due to the logistics of my job all over the world,  2-3 weeks a month I am on my cell phone using the YNAB and Chase apps exclusively so direct import does not get done with enough regularity to be effective since I have 60-100 transactions every 2 weeks

    • Coral Viper Sorry for the trouble! I understand how File Based Importing wouldn't be an option in that case. Hopefully, we'll have an update on that Chase issue soon!
