  • Your best bet is to enter it.  When it finally comes in, ynab will match it.

Blue Boa The two transactions will link together and give you the option to approve them as long as they are the same amount and within 10 days of each other. You won't have to worry about duplicates.

so weird I’m looking again, one is missing and there is a different amount that doesn’t exist in my savings account transfers. this has gotten all screwy and will need further investigating to figure out how to get the 2 accounts the same.

Blue Boa If interest shows up on your bank statement as an inflow transaction, Import should pull it in.

I've heard that there are some banks that do not do it this way, in which case I'd recommend a scheduled transaction as a placeholder that you can manually update when you know how much interest was earned.

dakinemaui Ok thank you. it is not importing any of the interest transactions. So just reconcile every month. ugh, None of my accounts are matching with the bank’s accounts and I have missing a couple thousand from my total assets in YNAB.  I don’t know what I have done as this is my first month trying to get it all set up right and know what the hell I’m doing for June lol. I consider myself fairly intelligent but I feel like I’m trying to learn calculus in a foreign language😂

Blue Boa You may benefit from manually entering everything. You'll be better in tune with your finances and can ensure it's done correctly. Even YNAB recommends manual entry as the primary method with Import being the backup.

  • Should I just start fresh or just add the correct amounts into each account so that they match my bank’s and the total assets doees?

Blue Boa I would reconcile each account which will automatically make the correct adjustment. (Just assume everything has cleared for simplicity and mark it as such.) Starting fresh results in the exact same amount of money in the budget but nukes all your history in the current budget. A fresh start is more work as I see it since many of your categories likely have the right money in them, which will have to be put back.

Another option is to reconcile, then set all Available amounts to $0 at the end of the month (i.e., today). Switch to next month's area and the budget will be identical to that of a fresh start. You just happen to also have your transaction history which is useful from time to time.
