  • Hi LaRouche ! Sorry for the trouble there!

We're currently experiencing multiple issues with PNC bank (there's currently three active incidents on the status page). Some users aren't able to connect at all and those that can connect are seeing either duplicates or incorrect imports.

We're working with our Direct Import partner to get these issues ironed out, and will post updates on our Status Page as we hear back, so please check in with us there!

Nicole The status page you're linking to is asking for me to create a login. Can you please post updates somewhere that doesn't require another throw away account.

    • JF I'm so sorry about that! Thanks for letting me know. That wasn't the correct link. I've edited the post to reflect the right one—and you won't need an account!

  • I just chatted with a PNC rep and they told me this

PNC has temporarily suspended its connectivity with a third-party data aggregator as we work together to ensure compliance with PNC’s security standards. This action may temporarily impact your usage of certain third-party applications that you have connected to your PNC account.

  • Last week, after experiencing once again the issue with PNC (which still hasn't been resolved), I started testing the waters with quicken.  I will say I don't like it as much as YNAB but there were no issues connecting to PNC. Why is it an issue here?

    • LaRouche Thanks to a thoughtful YNABer (thanks Navy Blue Rain ) , we've learned that PNC is limiting connections to third-party data aggregators—like the one we use to bring in transactions.

We're on the case, and working with our import partner on a fix! While we hope it will be fixed within a couple days, it could take a couple weeks depending on the complexity.

Nicole It appears that they're not blocking the one that Quicken uses. Maybe it's time to search for a new one?

    • LaRouche Since the import feature was added, we've used three different import partners in order to improve connections and response times. We're working a solution for these connection PNC issues!

  • From PNC on Twitter: Good morning, we recently worked together with a third-party app data aggregator and put in place a security layer, a one-time passcode. A mobile device must be enrolled within your PNC Online Banking account to receive the passcode. For instructions: https://pnc.co/2WYqxjz  1/2 | After that step, customers must re-link their PNC accounts to any app used previously. We apologize for the inconvenience. 2/2

Salmon Cello Fantastic! This worked for my PNC Account! I am now linked! This is a good solution with PNC. Hopefully this will substantially reduce linking issues... If not eliminate them.

    • LaRouche got far enough for it to ask me for the one time password but then still doesn’t connect. Did you remove the old connection entirely and start new?

Spring Green General  I just re-established the existing connection and it prompted me that it was sending a code. Have you already verified your phone via PNC web app first?

    • Salmon Cello Thank you for sharing! I've passed that along to our team. 😄

    • Salmon Cello Still not working for me unfortunately. Tried on iPad, laptop, etc. Removed my phone number and then added it again.

Did you only enroll your phone under mobile banking or did you also set up two factor authentication for it send you a text as well?

Spring Green General Only mobile on PNC. Then when I tried to reconnect through YNAB it causes PNC to send another verification number to enter into a pop-up box in YNAB.

    • LaRouche I guess I’m the unlucky one in the bunch. I already had my mobile number verified and I only get the text message prompt if I enable Two Step Authentication. After I put it in, it goes back to asking me for my username and password because it can’t connect.

I hestitate to remove the connection and try fresh as I don’t want to lose all that transaction history.

    • Nicole FWIW, this worked for me too

    • Aquamarine Cleric Thank you! I've let our team know, so we can suggest that to other YNABers. 😄

    • Hi Spring Green General ! Removing that is just the connection to your bank. The account and transaction history in YNAB will be safe and sound. 😀 Here are the steps!

While I hope it solves the issue for you, if it does not—our import partner will continue working on this until we have a solution for all users.

Salmon Cello Thank you for posting this! This cleared up the PNC connection issues for me in YNAB once I enrolled my mobile device at PNC.

    • Salmon Cello This worked for me too! These instructions should be provided within the YNAB app!

  • Quick update! I hit Remove On the manage connections page and then re-connected. It asked me for a text message code twice and then connected. I had to delink my YNAB accounts to my connections but everything looks good.

Thanks for the lead on this.

  • I still cannot connect. I can't add my mobile number because I already did it a long time ago! This is maddening! How are you connecting if you already have a mobile number on file?

    • Hi Hot Pink Chef !

Here are instructions for how to enroll your mobile number with PNC. After you enroll your number, head back to YNAB and try connecting there. You can click the Import button in your YNAB account register and follow the prompts.

If you still aren’t able to connect, let’s have you then try removing the connection and re-adding it to start with a fresh connection.

If you find that you still aren’t able to connect, let me know and we'll go from there!

    • Faness I still cannot get it to work. The problem seems to be that my mobile number is already registered. I therefore cannot re-register it and I cannot get a code. I tried removing the connection and re-adding it anyway but it's blocked. I tried re-adding my mobile number through PNC's online banking site but I get an error that my mobile number is already in use on my profile. I am completely stuck! I tried calling PNC's help desk but gave up after being on hold for 20 minutes. Any suggestions?

    • Hi Hot Pink Chef ! Can you try following the steps to delete and re-add the link between PNC and your mobile device, under "Need to change your mobile number with PNC"? Hopefully that will trigger PNC to send you the code. You should be able to do that from their website!

After that, let's try removing and re-adding the connection in YNAB. Let me know how it goes!

    • Nicole Thanks for your help. That doesn't work. I called them and they also couldn't figure it out. I've completely removed my number from their site but get the same error so it has to be something on their side. I guess I just won't be able to have linked PNC accounts which is obviously a big hassle but I don't think it's the fault of YNAB. Maybe it's time to close my PNC accounts!

    • Nicole I'll update in case anyone else has this problem. I just spent more time on the phone with PNC and they basically run into the same issue as me - they can't find my number anywhere on the account but if they try to enroll it in mobile banking, they get an error that it's already enrolled. They are putting in an incident report on their end to purge that number from the system. Hopefully I'll know by the end of the week if that worked.

Faness I'm having this same issue. All of my accounts are with PNC, so I can't even get up and running. It just says my mobile number is already registered so I can't get a code to log in. Tried everything above.

      Like
    • Tan Nomad you will need to call them. They can purge the number from their system and then it will work. It took a couple days for the purge to happen but then it worked for me. What a hassle!

    • Hi Tan Nomad !

If you followed the steps to remove your mobile device, but you're still receiving the message that your number is already linked, Hot Pink Chef is right - contacting PNC directly is the next step. They can address things on their end to clear out that number so you can get things up and running. :)

In the meantime, I hope you’ll still set up the account! That way you can add your balances and start working on your budget. You can do this by selecting Add Account and setting it up as an Unlinked account from the start. Once the issue is resolved, you’ll be able to link it up, no problem!
