CC Payment Amount WAY higher than CC balance!

I thought I had CC's figured out but then a few months go by and the 'money set aside for payment' amount IS WAY HIGHER than my actual CC balance. What is going on?? Its like the payments are not getting recorded or deducted from the amount? How do I fix this?

  • Most common culprit is inflows categorized as "ready to assign" ("cash back" statement credits, refunds that don't get assigned to the original spending category). These inflows reduce the balance owed on the card, but since it's not new cash in the budget, the money just stays in your CC Payments category until you move it.

  • Orchid Clarinet Hey there! It's possible that more funds than necessary simply got assigned to your Credit Card Payment category, too. This happens most frequently when folks are first setting up their cards in YNAB and assign more than the starting balance.

The good news is that if you pay your card in full, all you need to do right now is move money out of the Credit Card Payment category until the available amount matches the working balance, like this:

Once that's true, your funded spending should keep things in line!

All that said, I wanted to let you know that I'm going to reach out to you directly via email so that we can tackle this in the context of your budget. 😊
