YNAB down time
I tried to open my budget earlier and YNAB was down and I couldn't even open my last copy of my budget on my computer. It's back up now. Thank goodness I had the app on my phone and I could check my category balances on there, if not sync to the server, since there was no way to look at my budget on my computer.
How long was this down time and how often is this going to happen? IMO, it's really not cool to move your entire program online and then have down time. Is there any way to have a downloadable version of the same software we use online, much like many other programs have? Slack is the one I'm thinking of because I just downloaded it. If we could access the most recent budget file and only sync when the server is up, that would make down time much less annoying. Otherwise it's not acceptable.
This was the first time that has happened to me so I'll give it a pass this time, but if I find it happening more I'm going to be really unhappy with YNAB. How can you expect us to use the budget for spending decisions when we can't access it when we need to make spending decisions?!????
In 5.5 years it's only happened a handful of times. As someone who works with cloud applications this is going to happen from time to time. Computers are not infallible. Seems like it was down for an hour. If it happens one a year that's 99.98858% uptime, which is pretty darn good for something that needs a database for individual user data.
Yay, now that everything's online you can get to your information all the time from anywhere except when everything isn't working.
I just hope it stays as a rare occurrence. It worked out only because I have the phone app, which you can open and look at the last data that was synched. I wonder how often it synchs? If I do most of my YNAB stuff on the computer, how far behind it will my phone be? I do have the background refresh setting on for my Iphone (which I usually don't for most of my apps) so it shouldn't be too far behind.
