Auto Budget Based on Last Month

I used to budget a new mont by using the lightning bolt and selecting “Budgeted Last Month” or something like that. Then I could adjust the categories that needed a little more or less.  Now I have to click on each category to see that option? Is that right? That’s crazy. Please bring it back.

  • I think the new Auto assign feature does this. If you click on the To Be Assigned at the top, and click assign, it should populate the budgeted last month option. It gives me that option in the web version, have you tried there?

Brianna Yeah that's it. It's online only right now. Well at least that means there is hope that it'll come back to mobile. Thanks for tip.

    • mgllghr Hey there! You're right - we removed this section of the mobile app because we learned in our testing that many users were running into budget-breaking issues because of them. You can still find this information for individual categories, though, and on the web!

That said, we do recognize that the information those quick-budget options provided was a valuable part of many YNABer's workflows. Some of that information may make its way to mobile again - just likely not as part of the Auto-Assign menu.

With Auto-Assign you can still adjust which categories will be funded when you use Auto-Assign on your YNAB mobile app. When you tap Auto-Assign, a preview will pop up letting you know where YNAB will assign those dollars. You can make changes to these assignments by tapping the blue amount in the category before you apply the assignments. I hope that helps a bit, but let us know if you have any other questions!

Rachel Thanks for the reply and clarification. At least it’s still available on the web. I hope it comes back to mobile, even if it’s a option in settings or something to have it appear. I have a decent number of categories and although I could set up targets for most if not all of them to make Auto more effective, it has largely been unnecessary in the past as I could always use last month as my starting point. For now I’ll cover the monthly budgeting on the web and hope I can do it on iOS again in the future.  And maybe slowly start adding targets to everything.
