what does Assigned mean for Credit Card Payments?
Hi, I've been using YNAB for a few months now, and it's been super helpful. I've read the docs on credit cards and still don't understand something that's peculiar about my data.
I pay off my CC in full every month. If I go back 3 years (the amount of data I imported), I can see the Assigned column for CC Payments vary each month, which sort of makes sense to me: there's "lag" between last statement balance and additional charges. The current CC balance shown in YNAB matches my CC account exactly, to the penny.
What I can't figure out is why, for the last 5 months, the Assigned column has NOT changed: it is exactly -$283.61. I only just realized that this has thrown off my "giving every dollar a job" because I've been assigning an extra 283.61 in order to make "Assigned in [Month]" = Inflow for the month.
What does this Assigned value mean, and is it normal that I have to adjust for it when giving every dollar a role?
Are you certain you're reading the right column? Assigned for all categories, including CC, always resets to $0 at the beginning of each month unless you take action. So if it is -$283.61 every month, you are taking some action, even if you don't understand that you did that (this often happens by clicking a quick budget option).
In any event, "assigned" for CC categories represents the amount you are budgeting to the credit card payment category in a given month, just as it does with any other category.
