An aesthetic win still counts, right?

I just wanted to share, since I am VERY proud of myself and spent a couple hours working on it, that I have added emojis to my budget for the first time.  I am not a super into emojis person, but I saw it on someone else's and was charmed, and thought I'd give it a try.  I started out putting one next to each category, but I quickly decided it was going to be too busy-looking and distracting, so I settled on putting several representative emojis on each Category Group name, and leaving the Categories clean. I love it!  Now I can see at a glance the difference between the categories full of houses, lightbulbs, and doctors; verus the ones with cartwheels and lipstick kisses and rainbows and planes flying to cute little tropical islands. It motivates me to be able to save for the fun stuff.   I feel like my budget expresses some of my sense of humor now . My long-term savings categories, which include emergency/income replacement and retirement, still have zero dollars in them, but it now it shows how I feel about such things:

Lol, someday I will earn my monocle!

The only downside is now when I look at accounts there's a bunch of annoying emojis cluttering up every line when I'm trying to track my transactions, so we'll see if this new system lasts, but for now, I'm having fun.

  • This 100% counts as a win! My wife is better about remembering to put proper emojis on our budget categories. I need to catch up...
