Early retirement for our second car

Hi there!

Our second car was slated for decommissioning  by the end of the year. That horizon was pushed forward yesterday when the old girl was diagnosed with a terminal transmission problem. I have a Car Maintenance & Repair Fund category in YNAB and that repair would have been twice as much as I have available in that fund. A budget meeting with She That Must Be Obeyed resulted in a decision to put her out to pasture ( the car not STMBO) to avoid the repair bill and make an early move to becoming a one car couple. My Car Maintenance & Repair Fund category was retired and the balance moved to my General Emergency Fund category and I donated the old girl to The Canadian Kidney Foundation for a tax receipt. Then I started rolling back all the True Expenses related to that second car... Insurance, Registration...literally  thousands of Loonies (Canadian Duck Bucks) were re-allocated to other jobs including my much beloved Adventure Sailing Fund Category.   Ynabbery strikes again!

  • I used to have a few Loonies and Twonies laying around.  No idea where they went as we've not been to Canada in over 18 years now.

    Yay to sailing!

I came for the dog photo, but I stayed for the writing - not only was this wonderfully written, it's definitely a win in the face of what could've been a negative! Sorry you had to let go of your car, but yay for being able to put those funds towards other things - Yay for "YNABbery"! :)

  • I love your definition of Loonies being Canadian Duck Bucks.. :) I'm going to have to borrow that line.
