PC Financial MasterCard unable to connect

This week PC Financial updated their website.  At the time, I was also asked to update my password to include a special character.  Since this event I have been unable to sync my data with YNAB, with the statement "We're having trouble connecting to this financial institution."  I have tried the troubleshooting steps, and have tried using both my new and old password.   Are other PCF users having this problem?

  • I'm not a YNAB user, but I came across this thread when Googling. I am as annoyed as everyone else with the  inability to download transactions  in MS Money OFX format from PC Financial. I'm not ready to abandon the  PC WE MasterCard, because no one else offers 3% on groceries from Loblaw affiliates, on top of the Optimum bonuses. Tangerine will give me 2%,  as I have groceries as one of my categories. (It also works on ALL purchases at Walmart Supercentre.)

However, Tangerine (aka Scotiabank) also appears to have removed its direct download option. Furthermore, I recently obtained a Brim MasterCard for 0% foreign exchange, 1% on all purchases and a 1% bonus on Amazon, but they also offer only CSV or Excel as download options. From the current Status page it looks as though a number of Canadian banking institutions are having similar Direct Download problems as a result of security-related updates to their websites. Others, e.g. Canadian Tire, offer no download option at all.

  • Yesterday I was able to download a CSV file from the website. BUT, only if you choose all transactions.  If you filter the transactions in anyway on the website the download link doesn't work for me.  It was until this week.  I then had to edit the CSV to take out the transactions that were already cleared in YNAB, save it and then run the new file through my Excel macro to reformat it to YNAB compatible CSV for file based import.  A pain in the butt to say the least....

It sounds like you're having to re-authenticate your accounts frequently? Sorry for the trouble there! Our Direct Import partner let us know that for certain security protocols, repeated re-authorizations may be required. This is great for security, of course, but not so great for the import experience.

We’re hopeful this will improve as our Direct Import partner develops more direct connections, but right now (and for the foreseeable future) it is expected.

If you’re finding that you can’t connect and/or import, that is not expected. Please let me know if that’s the case!

Yes, if you're seeing that option it should do the trick! I double-checked on your connection and I'm seeing a password error.

Here are some things you can try that should help resolve this issue:

      — Check to make sure the URL you use to log into your online banking account matches the URL you see in YNAB.
      — Double check to make sure you're entering the correct credentials. If you’re using a password manager, try entering your login credentials in manually.
      — Log into your financial institution's online banking account, then immediately try reconnecting the account in YNAB.

If you're still running into trouble, please let me know:

      - the web address for your financial institution's homepage:
      - the web address of the actual login page (if it differs from above):

Once I have that information, I can have our Direct Import partner dig in! :)

Hmm, I'm seeing an error on your connection that's asking to be re-authenticated. You can also:

      1. Select the name of your budget in the upper left-hand corner.

      2. Choose Manage Connections.

      3. Select the failed PC Financial connection and try to connect again.

If it still won’t connect, or you don't see the prompt to answer your security questions/enter the code—please let me know, and we'll investigate!

      Hi Nicole ,

Okay, going through "Manage Connections" works and I can enter my security code and the system will download the transactions correctly. Thanks for your help.

From from a UI point of view I think it would be a little more intuitive to prompt the user for the security code after hitting the "Import" button. Just a suggestion ;-)

      Thanks,

      Robert

Nicole   I made the switch to the new importer and have the same issue. Importing from PC Financial only works on the desktop version, not on mobile. And it also doesn’t really sync, it just dumps a few days worth of transactions and I end up having to try and figure out what’s missing to reconcile. Manual import was less troublesome. It also seems to have messed up my RBC import as well, I’m getting duplicate entries. If there is no solution in sight I might like to switch back to the old importer.

Sorry to hear you're still having trouble! Once we make the switch to our new direct import partner, we aren't able to move the account connection to the older provider, but we can troubleshoot the issues you're having! When you say you can't import on mobile, do you mean you don't see the prompt to bring in those transactions? On web, does the "transaction dump" miss certain transactions? You can let us know here, or respond to our last email and we'll go from there! :)

Faness on mobile the transactions don’t download. I get the prompt for the email code which I enter, seems to have a good connection, and then nothing. I’ll also get random emails with more confirmation codes, as if the importer is pinging PC in the background (which seems normal), but nothing gets downloaded. On the web version, I’ll get a download to work,  but it does not seem to go back more than a couple days, and then I have a few uncleared transactions floating, which I then have to double check with the PC website.
