How can I track changes to a goal?

I created a goal in my budget to save 1000$ for a new phone, for this I save 100$ every month. Now I had a need to make repairs in the house and I spent part of the savings on repairs. How can I keep track of how much money from savings on a new phone I spent on repairs?

Of course, I can solve this by creating several savings accounts. But I do not want to create them.

  • Hi Alexandr Gorodiolov !

By chance, did you create a Category Balance by Date goal? If so, when you move the money out of that savings category, your budget will adjust to show you how much you need to budget to still reach your goal on time. You can also look at the Budgeted amount in that month to see how much you didn't budget towards that category (less than $100) or the Budgeted amount will be negative if you didn't budget anything towards the category and took funds from it.

If those options aren't clear enough, you can use the Notes section to include how much you took from the category and why. :)

  • If you had been better able to predict the future, you would have put the money in Repairs instead of Phone in the first place, so no need to explicitly track "paybacks".

If you know you want to buy a phone on a specific date, just adjust the contributions accordingly. That will mean less for something else. More importantly, that very likely should NOT be Repairs that is shorted (as is typical with "paybacks").
