Paid once a month on 3rd Friday

Hi,

Not sure how I schedule something like this when the date constantly changes.

Thanks

  • Schedule it for Monthly on the 15th (the earliest day a 3rd Friday can be) and change the date to the real one when it hits the register. If it's still a future date, it'll go back into the scheduler as a one-time transaction.

Alternatively, you could set it for the 21st and then just force it into the register on Payday.

  • I'm in a similar boat.  My once-a-month salary deposit is on the second last business day of each month, so it can land as early as the 20th (in December)  or as late as the 30th (in a month with 31 days where both the 30 and 31 land on business days).  I just have mine set for the 28th of each month and manually revise it every month.

  • I don't add my income as a scheduled transaction since I don't want it to show up before the deposit has actually occurred. I watch my bank website and add it manually once I see it there. Occasionally it takes me by surprise in auto import.

  • I get paid on the 1st and 15th, but if one of those days are over the weekend, then it's the Friday before. I started doing YNAB on 2/19, so my "net worth" graph and the "income vs. expenses" sheets (from the YNAB Toolkit) are totally worthless. It makes it look like in March I got RICH, but in April I suck. I just don't look at that part of YNAB. But, if you give every dollar a job on the day you get paid, whether it's the beginning, middle or end of the month, you're doing YNAB right!

xgirlmama Changes to net worth over short periods are meaningless. It's the long-term trend that matters.

I get income on the 4th Wednesday of the month.  Have gone through and made a non recurring transaction for that date, through December based on the calendar. Also have a couple of events that occur every 4 and 8 weeks, again, YNAB does not have these options so I had to find something that works for me, and constantly adjust.   No, YNAB recurring transactions do not support these types of pay dates.  I have submitted a product request, many times, many, many times, for this but have given up ever hoping it would be implemented.    Who knows, maybe if you submit one, that might be the one that finally sees some action?

There is no scheduled frequency of "Every nth weekday of the month."  I put in a feature request for it some time ago, on the strength of Social Security paying every 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday; but of course the Feature Request form is just a black hole and nothing ever happens.

For a while, I scheduled Social Security monthly, and changed the date each month after it fired off. Then I realized I could schedule it for every 4 weeks.  Did that, and now I only have to change the date on the scheduled transaction 4 times a year, when it turns out to be a 5 week lag between the 3rd Wednesdays of consecutive months.  3rd Fridays would be the same situation.

Patzer Thanks for this.  I was trying to figure out how to deal with SS as well.  I'll put in a feature request also.

Once it posts this month, you can manually change the date of the future transaction to the 3rd Friday next month. It is a bit of manual work, but less than entering it from scratch each time.
