IOS Catalina

I downloaded the new IOS Catalina on my MacBook Air, and now YNAB won't even open.  I have tried working  with support via E-mail, but the steps they told me to take will not install it on Catalina?  Should I just find another bookkeeping program that supports the new 64-bit upgrade?

  • See my response in your other thread on this topic. There is no such thing as iOS Catalina. Catalina is a macOS for Mac computers.

  • Hi Tan Mermaid !

Sorry you're having trouble! If you updated your Mac computer to Catalina, it no longer supports 32-bit apps, so you won't be able to open YNAB 4. You can still migrate your YNAB 4 budget to the web-based version of YNAB, without opening the program if you'd like.

Take a look at that link and let me know if you still have questions!

Is this possible on Windows as well? (Upload a .zip of the budget folder)

  • YNAB isn't a bookkeeping program. It's not a good stand-in for one either, despite what official channels will tell you.

    • nolesrule It works just like I want it to.  I don't want anything fancy - just household budget.  I have used it for 3 years (used Quickbooks before that and it was too complex for what I wanted.)  I guess you just have to find what fits your situation.

I'm repeating my reply from the other thread, as it contains information that may be important, for how to continue to use YNAB4 in Catalina.

" ... You say you can't open YNAB. Do you mean YNAB4? If you upgraded your MacBook Air to Catalina, you won't be able to run YNAB4 without a workaround, where you run a version of an earlier macOS, most likely Mojave, maybe on a separate volume or using a virtual machine."

  • I'm not sure how to do that. I was hoping there was a new version of YNAB I could download and migrate all my data to that.

    • It's so sad to hear YNAB 4 was given up and dropped support for macOS Catalina. I love the YNAB Web app but back to these good old days, YNAB 4 for Mojave is just one of my most favorite desktop app. What I want to rise concern is that after upgrading to macOS Catalina, many apps like YNAB 4 cannot be opened due to 32-bit. But there're always workarounds or hacks that help users keep using these amazing apps abandoned by Apple, and the app devs.

Violet Rhythm There is a way to run YNAB4 with Catalina on the Mac. See this subreddit. It works, I can attest.
