Spending Report on Mobile App

Are there any plans to add the spending reports to the Mobile App?

I’m encouraging my wife that we should be sitting down together quarterly to review our spending and now we did in comparison to our goals and it would be nice to be able to just grab our iPad to review the numbers insteaf of having to view things on a lap top?

or maybe this exists and I’m just missing it.  All I see one the mobile App is net worth and age of money reports.

  • Hi TJ Crutcher !

That's a great idea and something we actually suggest in our Join Forces Guide - which includes other tips and tricks on budgeting with a partner!

For now, only the Age of Money and Net Worth reports are available in the mobile apps. The Spending and Income vs. Expense reports are only available on the web app. This could change in the future, but there aren't any solid plans at the moment.

You can keep an eye on our What’s Up Next? page to see what our development team has in the works! :)

    • Faness Just out of curiosity, what exactly is the development team so busy working on that they can't ever seem to find the time to implement essential features such as reports or passcode/TouchID?

    • Hi TheLethargicAge !

The What’s Up Next page keeps track of all the features our development team currently has in the works. Reports and the ability to export reports is now available. I'll let them know you're eagerly awaiting the option to set a passcode on the mobile app. It's in the plans, but I can't say where it lies on the list! :)

  • Will the budget report works out of the box on ipad browser if we request for a desktop site? I’ve tried that but the login button always redirects me back to the app. It would be really helpful to be able to see the report on a tablet especially with the large real estate space. Thanks! (And keep up the good work!)

  • Actually I just happen to chance across this - doing the “sign up free” via the “request desktop site” route allows me to sign in through the web on iPad. I can then see the Income vs Expenses Report. FTW!

  • Put me on the list please!  Would love to see this.

  • Me too please to see the spend report on mobile is my number one request. Happy to lose the age of money report, I can do that one in my head very easily

  • I travel constantly, and carry with me a tablet and a mobile phone.  This means that three weeks a month I do not have access to the spending reports, unless I'm willing to risk logging in at a hotel terminal, which is truly unsafe.  Has anyone found a workaround to where they can get the desktop version to view on their mobile phone?  When I try, to view desktop view in chrome, it pulls up the mobile ap.  Do I have to uninstall the mobile ap and reinstall to make it work?  Thanks!

  • Spending report and income vs. expenses report is also my number on request! I almost exclusively use ynab on the bus on the way home from work and it's super annoying these reports aren't available

  • Add me to the users that want all the reports available in the mobile app.  Please bump this up the priority list!

  • I would also like to see the spending report in the mobile app. It’s a shame that this essential part of budgeting - spending history - is missing from a paid monthly app based budgeting service.

  • Hi all!

This thread was first created before we changed how we collect feature requests on the forum, so I wanted to make sure to leave a link to the Feature Request form. Currently, the Spending and Income vs. Expense reports have a lot of information and fitting them into the mobile app might be difficult. You can let our development team know how much you'd like to see that option by submitting that form. :)

  • Is there any update to the iPad/iPhone app spending report status?

    • Hi Lynx Kitties !

This is on our radar, but I don't have any updates to share at the moment. We haven't come up with a way to include all of the data from the reports in the mobile app, but we hope to in the future. We want the mobile app to someday be as fully-functioning as the web app. :)

    • Faness  if this is still in development then please let me log in to the web app and stop forcing me to log into the phone app.  When I go to desktop site and click log in, the app auto opens.  This is beyond frustrating!

    • Tomato Mare Sorry for the frustration! Most mobile browsers aren't able to support the web app, so there's a roadblock in place to reroute to the mobile app. Some YNABers have reported that removing the mobile app allows them to open the web browser on their phone, but we can't say for certain this will work.

We want the mobile app to be as fully functioning as the web app someday, but we're not quite there yet.

    • Tomato Mare You can request a desktop site but its barely usable

  • Hi guys,

Bumping this thread. Reporting seem to be a big gap in functionality on the mobile. Not only that the desktop app does not render gracefully on the mobile when trying to force the desktop app. When you do manage to login the blue menu bar covers the whole screen and its fixed width.

Can we please prioritize this feature in the backlog?  Current mobile reporting is not at all useful.

    Thank you

    • Hi Lavender Moose !

Adding more reports to the mobile app is definitely on the team’s radar for future development. At this point—as we budget our limited development resources toward a visual redesign of the mobile app and continued improvements to the web app—adding more reports hasn’t made it onto our short term roadmap. It is something we plan to revisit after the redesign, but I want to be up-front and let you know that you shouldn’t expect to see this on mobile in the near future.

  • Bumping this thread also. As primarily a mobile user, not having access to an expense chart in reporting may motivate me to go back to Mint. I love pretty much everything else about YNAB but would 100% utilize an expense and income graph over an age of money one.

  • Any plans to reconsider this reporting feature?

    • Cyan Major I responded to your other comment, but wanted to pick things up here, too! Reports on mobile are on our radar, but it may be quite some time before we're able to take another look at them. Currently, we're focusing on a mobile redesign. Once that's complete we'll be revisiting new features to bring to mobile, but I can't say where Reports will fall on that to do list.

  • I truly need this on my iPad Pro! What is the reasoning behind not having it? It would be a game changer.

    • Maroon Memory Since you're using an iPad Pro, you should be able to load the web version of YNAB in Safari by going to app.youneedabudget.com and logging in. Not all of the features of the web app work in a mobile browser, but this report should work fine. Please let me know how it goes!

  • +1 I keep coming back to this thread to check for an update.

Reporting is one of the main reasons I track my expenses, and my old Google sheet I used before ynab had better reporting on mobile. I'm looking forward to when the team adds reports of spending by category on mobile.
