Updated to Plaid, but No Imports

Just went through updating my Capital One accounts for the Plaid transition, but now I can't import anything.  Curious if anyone else if having the same issue.

  • Hello everyone!

I'm glad to hear you were all able to update your accounts to Plaid! :)

Most financial institutions do not clear transactions over the weekends, so it's normal not to see imports on Saturdays or Sundays. Your latest transactions should clear on Monday and import either Monday evening or Tuesday. If you still aren't seeing transactions import at that point, please fill out this form and our Direct Import team will help you get things up and running! :)

    • Faness It’s not that. My paycheck cleared my bank Friday, but never imported. I tossed a support ticket on the pile, and Robert said other cases were in. Hope to know something next week.

Faness FWIW to anybody following this thread: my imports finally came through this evening. I double-checked and they're now current, including ones from last Thursday that previously hadn't updated. Hopefully things stay smooth, and also smooth out for everybody else.

Hey Faness, I hope you are safe and well. I'm having the same issue, now I'm getting Direct Import errors stating that my Banking Creds are incorrect. are we sure this is not related to the Import vendor cutover.

    • Hi ynabHammer !

I hope you're doing well with everything going on! Sorry for the direct import troubles!

The switch shouldn't have caused a credentials error (since the credentials are the same for the account regardless of the provider), so it sounds like something went wrong there. Can you fill out this form when you have a moment? Our Direct Import team is taking a closer look at connections that run into errors on an individual basis and they'll help you get things back up and running! :)

I'm well, getting settled in WFH.

Ok, thank you. I will fill out the form. I'm told that these issues are more related to CapOne folks. Once again thanks

    • ynabHammer I wish your transition to WFH was under better circumstances, but I still hope it goes well and you settle in nicely! Capital One has proven to be tricky lately - their security standards require frequent account re-verification - but our Direct Import team will be able to give you more details! :)

Thanks, I had to verify twice, it appears to be working now. I just need to know how often I need to re-verify.

WFH, as many benefits, lack of traffic being one of them. Thanks my sister, be well

Faness Thanks for the update on your status page this morning. FWIW, my updates have improved to once/day in the evenings. Once they're updating in the mornings I'll be all set. (I usually do daily budget analysis during my early morning routine.)

    • Faness I'm having the same issue but YNAB says the connection is good....so  I can't refresh!  I've tried linking/unlinking many times, and eventually just closed the accounts and opened new ones and linked again, but it still says "connection good" but also "nothing to import."  Last imported transactions were May 4.

    • Spring Green Tiger I see you wrote in via the form—thank you! Did that do the trick? It looks like new transactions imported yesterday. Leave your connections as-is, and those should start flowing in within ~24 hours. If they don't, go ahead and reply to that last email and we'll take another look!

  • I updated yesterday. It seemed pretty smooth at the time. I checked my account today and no transactions have imported. I even tried to manually import them. It said no new transactions. But there are new transactions.

  • Same here - When I went into the app before updating, it briefly showed my new transactions but then after updating they disappeared and nothing has imported. It's been 8 days since I've had any transactions import.

  • No updates here either.  When I check the bank website there are several transactions that have cleared since my last cleared YNAB transaction but still no import.

  • Same here.   Went into YNAB on Friday specifically to see some stuff that should have imported, but wasn't.  Went through the process of connecting PLAID to everything.  No transactions came down.  Triple-checked on my banks website that there were cleared transactions.  Transactions finally came down sometime on Sunday.  :(

Monster Dong I'm clearing mine and reconciling manually in the meantime. They should just match up once we're able to direct import again. As far as I can tell, Schwab only exports csv files. You'd have to modify these to make them fit YNAB's manual import format.

Monster Dong FYI, here's the information I got from YNAB Support:

Charles Schwab is currently blocking access from some third-parties (which include our data aggregators) at this time, in order to prioritize customer-based traffic to their online banking.

While we've been given a tentative timeframe of just a few weeks, it could go on longer if Schwab determines it necessary.

    • Hi Monster Dong !

We don't suggest waiting until this is resolved to update your budget. Like Superbone mentioned, there are other ways to keep your budget moving. Here are the ways we suggest:

      1. Enter transactions as they occur—the mobile app is great for recording spending on-the-go (gas and groceries) and Scheduled Transactions  are perfect for recurring expenses (rent and utility bills). Once you're able to link the account, imported transactions will match right up with the ones you entered. You’ll even have the chance to approve the matches—or manually match two transactions if the amounts differed.
      2. Import and categorize transactions by using File-Based Importing (in the web app). It’s a super quick and easy alternative that allows you to drag and drop a file containing your transactions right into YNAB. With Schwab, they usually provide a CSV, but it has A LOT of data going back about two years. That's okay with YNAB, we will only import since the last day you reconciled or the day of your starting balance. Also, it won't import what is already in your budget and when you do get the connection back up and running, no duplicates! YNAB will match those transactions right up :) Also, you will want to check out our Help Doc on formatting a CSV before you drop that into YNAB.

Also, make sure to Reconcile often. Correct balances are the foundation of your budget and we don't want direct import being down to ruin that. :)

Hopefully, things will be back up and running in the time frame they mentioned. 🤞

Thin White Duke I didn't hear back from support but I figured it was a new month so I gave it a try tonight and voila! Charles Schwab US is working again. I didn't even have to put my credentials in. Just clicked on the account and it worked.

    • Superbone I woke up to 28 transactions that needed to be imported. lol They linked up with everything I entered though, and to be honest I'm glad this happened because I was not completely aware I should be manually entering all my transactions when I make a purchase. Blessing in Disguise!

Thin White Duke Interestingly, mine didn't import any! I had previously manually added my new transactions and reconciled. When I relinked my account, it showed the same online balance that I had in YNAB and that was that.

Slate Blue Deer Slate Gray Foal Must be nice! I tried to remove/re-add my Capital One connection and now I just get a generic Plaid message saying "Capital One made a change that prevents you from linking your accounts" and that's that. Now I'm truly just treading water.

One of the primary selling features of YNAB is direct import. And now it's a feature that doesn't work for me. It's frustrating, especially because the move to Plaid just made it worse.

Nicole I filled out the form yesterday, thank you. Honestly, my expectations are "we're working on it".

  • Yeah, I'm feeling that most of my accounts need to be unlinked/linked - and then when I touch them, some break - including capital one.  Feels like Plaid knows there's an issue with CapOne and shouldn't attempt to even try but it did sending me in the text message circle until I unlinked and tried to relink.

The 'Updated x hrs ago' checkmark in the web app doesn't seem to be reliable in some accounts (as transactions aren't appearing).

The 'successful transactions' page also seems to overstate the success based on what I think is a running average over days before the Plaid transition rather than hours.

I get it, direct import is an option, direct entry is an option.

I don't expect much response I guess, and I'm not sure what card I would turn to other than capital one since it is hit or miss without a published whitelist.

Sigh. I really love the YNAB world but this Plaid transition is not going well for my particular set of institutions.

  • I had similar issues with CapOne. After the Plaid switchover, everything seemed fine but it never actually attempted to pull transactions (mine said last updated 4 days ago, which was the day everything was switched).

Now that I attempted to fix this by unlinking and relinking the account, I can't get it back at all. Plaid either tells me it just doesn't support CapOne, or puts me in a loop of entering authentication info, or actually succeeds only to tell me I have no accounts at CapOne.

I'm frustrated mostly because this cutover to Plaid has been nothing but moving backwards. Previously with the old direct import provider I had to enter a 2FA code each time I wanted to import, but at least it worked. Now I can't link the account at all.
