Updated to Plaid, but No Imports

Just went through updating my Capital One accounts for the Plaid transition, but now I can't import anything.  Curious if anyone else if having the same issue.

Sorry for the troubles you're having with the switch! If you haven't already, please report a Bank Importing Issue using that form so our Direct Import team can take a closer look at things. I've seen a number of issues with Capital One, but they'll be able to give you more details. :)

I'm just frustrated because, like I said, this all worked fine last week.

  • WaFed account transactions not importing since Plaid update. Unlinked/relinked account. Was told credentials were bad (?!?!) I logged into WaFed account, and only after that was able to relink. Still, no imports. Very busy trying to keep things afloat during pandemic; would rather not spend time entering transactions manually if I can avoid it.

    • Hi Cyan Tape !

Since you were able to relink, fingers crossed those transactions show up. If you still aren't seeing them come tomorrow, please report a Bank Importing Issue using that form so our Direct Import team can take a closer look. :)

  • My imports are sporadic at best since the update to Plaid.   17 hours since last update on some, 20 hours on others.   I thought it was supposed to check every 8 hours?

Why can we not have the feature to force updates?  Mvelopes can do that, so there shouldn't be any reason YNAB cannot.

    • Scythe   Yep, I was sooo hopeful the switch to Plaid would improve my capital one checking access.  But now it's worse.  At least before I could enter my pin once a day, now it doesn't update for days at a time and then it asks for pin twice, back to back.  Is there a checking account I can get that will work properly?

    • Scythe We are seeing reports of delayed transactions, and there is an issue on our status page. Our Importing team can definitely look closer at your connections, if you have a moment to report the bank issue here.

As for on-demand updates, our CPO recently answered a similar question in the Upcoming Changes to Direct Import thread with more details. Plaid does check more often than our previous providers, so we are excited about what that means for the future!

Since the synch, I have not had any direct imports from my primary bank account since last Thursday (4/23). The account is through Bank of America. I made my own adjustments for last Friday, but nothing since.

  • Having the same issue here with Capital One - CA.. The strange thing is credentials and security code work and it would say "Your bank was reconnected." but it would fail on the next step to import the transactions saying "incorrect credentials". Of course, it's not true because I can log in no problem at their website with the same credentials.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Faness  for the quick reply.

I sent my inquiry on this through the help tool on the bottom right corner on YNAB but I haven't gotten any reply. So is it better to use the form that you've provided?

Ok, I will give that a shot. Thanks again!

    • Orchid Motherboard - I can't blame YNAB or Plaid for this one. Capital One changed their methodology to force 2 Factor Authentication, which is what broke it. I actually have this same issue with other accounts that link back to Capital One.

I've been a customer of Capital One since when it was owned by ING Direct, and never had issues until the past year or so. Not seeing any movement, I actually moved much of my daily transactions to my local Credit Union, and use Capital One only to store some higher interest rate items.

We are all frustrated, but laying the blame on YNAB or Plaid won't solve the issue. All importers are feeling this pain, unfortunately.

      Like
  • Well....Those of us that do NOT use Capital One can definitely blame one or the other and perhaps both.

Capital One has always had problems, and honestly....probably always will.  That doesn't mean other institutions have those kinds of problems.  Get a better bank.

In the meantime....This transfer to Plaid has been nothing but a disaster on many levels.  I hope they fix it soon, but I can do manual imports if I have to.  Not really what we are paying YNAB for, but it is what it is at this point.

Scythe The Plaid transition has definitely not been smooth. I guess I'm just lucky that I wasn't a part of it. I'm a little confused to be honest why some are on Plaid and some are not. Is it based on account or are users randomly dispersed among the various direct import services.

Superbone As far as I know, everyone is being transitioned.  Not sure of the drop dead date, but 25 May sticks in my mind.  I am getting some stuff, but I manually imported a lot just to get my budget aligned for May.   Right now....17 hours - Over a day for imports.  Not too worried yet as Monday is always kind of like that.

Scythe No, I was told that YNAB has multiple direct import partners, one of which was bought by Plaid (Quovo?). I was also told that my accounts weren't using that direct import partner and therefore my DI wouldn't need to be transitioned.

On one of the first screens, you're asked which banks are having trouble (and to list, if multiple). If you did that, that's enough to get them started. If you wrote something else, you'll see an email shortly after submitting, and can reply there with the banks you're looking to connect to!

  • I still can't believe that after the "big upgrade" to whatever plaid is YNAB works far worse than before.  Didn't anyone even try it before they went full speed ahead?  Month after month after month, all I want is to be able to download my transactions automatically, it's one of the features YNAB advertises.

  • Same as everyone else.... Why did I have to have my bank call me 6 times to put in the verification and my credit cards had to text me the code 4 times each as well...

I put most everything in manually when spent but the I shouldn't have to spend 30 mins just trying to get each of my accounts to re-sync so I can verify everything has cleared as it should have, and at least the old provider saved my login info and only had to be submitted once. This plaid has seemingly fixed the issue with discover not allowing connections, but in fixing that one it has made 3 new account problems....

Alice Blue Mill Seems hit or miss with me.  For example, my USAA accounts were connected a "day ago", while citi bank was connected 16 hours ago, and other accounts were connected 8 hours ago.   Nothing imported, but any transactions may not have clear yet.   😒

I heard they use multiple importers, so I wonder when/if  the 'Opt out of using Plaid' option becomes available, as this switch has been ridiculous on many levels.

I am sure many of of us are questioning if the Plaid connections were tested at all before roll out, and if not - when did we volunteer to be a beta testers?

I have to sign in every time for each account, perform 2-step authentication TWICE, and then later find out that “clear” transactions are no longer importing......

Alice Blue Mill Yeah, ONE of my accounts seems to be hitting everyday now, my costco visa card (citibank) which is a plus, as that is the main thing I use due to the fantastic cash back rewards.  I also use YNAB in the same manner to ensure it's paid off in full every month.

My credit union and bank accounts are hit or miss - mostly just saying "a day ago", but they've been saying that for days now.  🤬  I can't honestly say if they are importing at all, but there is so little activity, I've been doing it manually this last week.

Nicole, I got  your note, and yes I have read the CPO's thoughts on the matter.  Makes sense, but to state that on demand importing is not possible is simply wrong.   Finicity allows Mvelopes users to do just that.   Not only can you pull cleared transactions, you can pull pending transactions.  I know this, as I switched to YNAB from Mvelopes, as YNAB is the better product for me.   👍😄

In any case, I did submit a import issue form, and received an email from Sarah, so hopefully we get everything resolved soon.  🍀🤞

Perhaps they didn't say that exactly, but that's how I read it when reading through it all.   Note, the discussion does mention it may be possible in the future.

Why can’t I trigger an import whenever I want to?

It feels like you should be able to, right? But this goes back to the point at the end of the previous question. If, instead of our aggregation partners pulling transaction data a set number of times per day, everyone could request the data over and over again, this situation of banks being overloaded with requests would get worse, and the experience may be worse for all.

    • Nicole  Why was the rollout to Plaid made before fully testing and confirming it is working as it should? YNAB's paying customers are not beta testers. The multiple authentications and severely delayed transaction imports (or not importing at all) is a widespread issue that was immediately apparent from the time of the switch to Plaid. Excuses and generic answers do little to make things right.

I think YNAB should address this by sending out a communication that acknowledges the issue and then consider adding the amount of time it takes to resolve the issue to the back end of their customers' subscriptions.
