  • You have $36.28 of cash overspending in May.

  • Allocate to clear the red category. That signifies missing money from the plan, and YNAB won't let that persist past the month boundary.

  • And that is a real big pain. I wish the number just made TBB negative, as it is a lot easier to track in the current month and figure out how to reallocate the $. One thing I miss from YNAB4.

casner Cash overspending in the current month has never made the current month TBB negative. The issue is that now, if you budget in the next month, it makes the current month *positive* because of the way the money flows back across the boundary.

casner If you wall off the funds for next month, you can shift the overspending into TBB as you wish.

I commonly do this as a more efficient workflow: zero out the handful of negative categories (TBB now has the consolidated shortage), and start reducing budget entries elsewhere, starting with the least important, until TBB is back up to $0. I'm sure you know, but for the benefit of others, type "-10" <Enter> in the budget cell of green category to shift $10 into TBB.

I am still not seeing a solution here. If I give that money a job in May, it puts me in a negative in June?? Then if i adjust June, it puts me back in a positive in may?

    • Brad Glad you figured it out? May I ask you to do me a favor? I've seen this a couple of times recently (budgeting two months ahead causing an unexpected value in To Be Budgeted next month), and I think it might be a bug. Would you mind filling out a bug report? If you don't have time, I understand. Thanks!
