My car broke down and it will cost me about $1400. My emergency fun has $1000. I don't have enough to move other categories around to pay off the $1400 for this months budget. However, I am fully funded for next month. How do I even enter this car bill into YNAB correctly? My "to be budgeted" goes in the red about -$1000. Should I edit my Car maintenance budget an extra $1000 to accommodate the payment from my emergency fun? Do I just take money from next months budget and transfer "funds" to this month's budget? I hope that makes sense.
- In this month, move $1000 from "Emergency Fund" to "Car Maintenance" (or whatever the appropriate category is.)
- Page forward to next month and find $400. It has to come from somewhere. Reduce categories until you have $400 in TBB.
- Come back to this month and budget the $400 to Car Maintenance.
- Make the transaction.
