I can't figure out where I'm stealing from the future, but YNAB insists that I am.

Hi folks. I'm probably missing something obvious here, but I'm about to tear my hair out.

I thought I'd figured out how careful I needed to be with budgeting in future months, how to avoid stealing from the future, etc., but clearly I was wrong. My banner at the top of the budget screen notes that I've overbudgeted in September by $31.22. No matter what I change in my budget, in September or otherwise, that number never changes. I have no idea why it's there or how to get rid of it. Even when I set all my categories to $0 for September, it doesn't change a bit. I've meticulously gone through every single category across July, August, and September, and nothing is overbudgeted. How on earth do I fix this?

Also do you use the toolkit?

  • I've seen this before and it was a Toolkit bug, but I don't remember the specifics. Another possibility you might look for is negative amounts in the Budgeted column in a future month, which can affect To be Budgeted in odd ways.

  • Did you refresh your browser? The toolkit has an issue with this. Once I fix the issue, I have to refresh the browser before the red SFTF warning goes away.
