Credit card transactions failed to import for 2 months, except for balance payments: how to reconcile?
YNAB failed to connect to my CC account between early November and mid-January. I use this CC for a bunch of monthly subscriptions that were thus paid for, but these transactions were not recorded in YNAB. I auto-pay the full balance on that CC every month. YNAB did record the balance payments, probably because it got these transactions from my checking account (no linking problem there). Unless I'm missing something, I think I'm good "overall": the recorded balance payments ensure that YNAB shows me how much money I actually have in total, up to the last payment.
Because CC balance payments were recorded but my CC usage was not, that CC's balance on YNAB was off, and the "amount available" corresponding to the CC in my budget went negative. I just managed to reconnect my CC account to YNAB. To adjust for the missing transactions, I added a reconciling transaction that makes my CC's balance on YNAB match with the actual one. That however did not change the budget part: the "amount available" on my CC is still at the same negative value. I don't understand why. Shouldn't the reconciling transaction raise my CC's "amount available" and reduce my amount "To be budgeted"?
Am I doing anything wrong here?
Arguably, the best approach is to change the category on the reconciliation adjustment to the most likely category. This will then automatically move funds from that category to the CC Payment category, avoiding the overspending there.
However, if those purchases hit a lot of categories, probably easiest thing is to just reallocate manually. The red category indicates the funds the CC took as payment are still reserved elsewhere in the budget. The best place to take from is the lowest priority category with funds. That may or may not be the category the expenses would have hit had you recorded the transactions instead of the reconciliation adjustment.

Hi, there! Just adding a bit more context here: Money will move credit card payment category from your spending categories when you make a purchase on your credit card and categorize it with a funded category. This is called "budgeted spending."
Money isn't moving to the Credit Card Payment category in this case because your Reconciliation Balance Adjustment is simply a balance adjustment on the card. It's not budgeted spending because it's not categorized to a funded category.
It seems like your best options for getting this back in line have been outlined by dakinemaui above! :)
