A YNAB Savings Widget

My favorite feature in YNAB is setting savings goals, but I was disappointed that you can't view all of your goal targets in one place, so I built this feature using YNAB's open API (tech talk for a way to connect to YNAB's database securely).

The app I built is called YNAG (You Need A Goal) and I would love your feedback! Take a look and if you have any ideas for updates or experience any problems, please let me know!

  • Hi Jared Blumer !

Thank you for giving the API a spin and sharing what you've built! :)

I'm going to move this over to our API & Integrations section of the forum. If you have a moment, would you mind sending what you've built over to our development team at [email protected] ? As long as it follows our guidelines, they'll list it on our Works with YNAB page so we can suggest it to other YNABers!

  • Hi. Just tried this out and I like it. Question - not all goals are showing. What is the setting.

  • looking promising.

Only 3 goals, and seemingly at random.

Looked in Safari 13.0.5 and Google Chrome. Both on a Mac. Both the same,

I plan on adding other types of goals as there seems to be a demand for that, but if you are missing Target Balance Goals, then there is a problem with the app  so please let me know if that's the case. Thanks for your feedback!

  • Target goal by Date, I only have the one that shows up in this app. Spending goal by Date, I have several, and Target Goal without a Date are in my budget, but don't show up.

  • I had a look. Here is what I'd like to see. It would be good to be able to order the categories (e.g. by %, by due date, by monthly contribution). I'd like to be able to see the Goal contribution target as well as the budget for this month, so we can clearly see if we met the goal this month or not. And some indication whether we are on track for the goal or not. I'm not sure what to put for this one, maybe the Goal contribution for next month? If it's more than the current month, it would mean we are falling behind. Or simply a red colour if the budgeted this month is lower than the goal monthly target?
Finally, a total of all goals monthly contributions would be good. I know you can see it from the quick budget numbers in YNAB in next month area but may as well have it here if you want to make this a good summary of people's goals.
