iOS trick I somehow missed

I have an iPhone and use the app most of the time. I had no idea I could just “hold” down a category and a shortcut menu pops up - with the one thing that I do that takes multiple steps to do - show activity. 🤯

  • I discovered the same thing after 4 months of using this YNAB version. I was frustrated that there was no simple way to view activity in a category, then accidentally left my finger too long on the screen and voila! Love the feature!

  • Thanks for sharing, MXMOM ! Aren't the iOS context menus amazing? They come in handy.

You can access these shortcuts using the long press (tap-and-hold) on the Budget screen, Account screen, or Transactions screen. Here's quick (and giant 😅) .gif to show them in action:

Nicole thanks. I just did the iOS update to 13 because of a Christmas gift I got that needed it. I hold off on major iOS updates as long as possible to let other people “fine tune” the issues. This is a major improvement. Now if the “enter payment” for credit card payment category could be added to that perhaps the confusion around credit cards would decrease. In the web app there is an enter payment option and the user doesn’t really have to grasp the transfer concept but if you enter the payment on the mobile app it doesn’t have that option and I think that may be adding some of the issues. There are a lot of people using mobile apps exclusively now rather than only as an extension of a more robust web app.

    • MXMOM I've done the same in the past! This time I couldn't wait. 😉 That's a great suggestion! If you have a chance, please submit a Feature Request to let our product team know you'd like to see the Enter Payment option in the mobile app too.

The number of mobile-only folks is definitely growing, and we're excited about that! I use the mobile app more now than ever—it's been an interesting change for me, but a good one.

  • Mine does not work.  Is this an iOS 13 capability?  I have an iPhone 6 which does not qualify for iOS 13.

    • ynaber2613 Yes, they are. Apple introduced context menu capability with iOS13. If you're using an earlier OS version, you won't see them.

    • Terry Bauer As a fellow Android user, I completely understand. Hopefully, we'll be able to use this feature in the future. Android tends to get things a little later when it comes to app updates (though I still prefer them over iPhones).
