TSV file export, but no import?

Hi, because of the next MacOS update I am trialing nYNAB coming from YNAB4 and before that YNAB3. Am well aware of how much effort one can use keeping YNAB up to date (especially those of us who will continue to manually enter transactions), so am trying to figure out how to back up the data entered. However, it seems like there are no way to actually import a TSV backup file into YNAB again if one is unlucky enough to delete (or otherwise loose) the budget?? Am I missing something here?

  • Hi Spring Green Unicorn ! We have plans for a "make a copy" option for your budget. It's road-mapped (not super high on the list, but it's there).

You can export your budget and transaction data in CSV or TSV format. All you need to do is click on the name of your budget in the upper left corner and choose the Export budget data option.

It's not a true back-up, because all of the data can't be imported back into YNAB, but it will give you a copy of your budget and account registers. If you happened to delete your budget from the Budget Dashboard, we can definitely restore that for you. You'd just need to reach out to us at help@ynab.com!

Let me know if you have any questions!
