New Color Scheme Lacks Contrast (Especially For Those With Color Blindness!)
The new color scheme simply doesn't work. The new colors not provide enough contrast. With my type of colorblindness, I can barely see the difference between the red & green. They actually look very much the same at a glance and I can really only spot the difference when I take a really close look. This is bad. Like really really bad.
Please don't make this the only option! You have literally broken a very important part of the design for a lot of people. Please revert ASAP until you can find a better design than this (or at least give us the choice in the settings!).

These colors are awful. They are way harder to see than the original color scheme and I'm not even color blind. Also if you're going to change the colors like this, it needs to be a toggle-able option. For the vast majority of people who are NOT colorblind, this is a step backwards, and from what I'm reading elsewhere colorblind people don't like it too. This is not a case of "Who moved my cheese?", it's demonstrably bad design.

I am not color blind. But, yes, this is terrible. There is already not enough contrast on this forum (which I have pointed out many, many times) and it has never been fixed. Now, the lack of contrast is infecting YNAB itself. I find it very hard to see the difference and I have to squint and lean over to read the numbers. Before I could clearly read everything. Now, it is a struggle to read that very important column!
You fixed something that wasn't broken. What aversion is it that you have to simply letting people make choices? Let me choose the color scheme that work for me rather than forcing me to use something that already gives me a headache since it is such a struggle.
More and more I wonder if YNAB is intentionally trying to force out older users of YNAB. The forum colors (like of contrast) are very difficult on people who use reading glasses. This change to YNAB is also difficult on older eyes. If you want us to quit, just say so.

Hello everyone!
It is a good idea to advance the design of the site, but this simple change must be part of a broader program change. That's when we will be able to appreciate these novelties.
For the moment, I'm waiting to see the rest (I hope there will be other developments!). If not, I also prefer the old design.

Hi All!
Thank you so much for your feedback on our new color scheme! This is definitely an ongoing project, and we wanted to get this first change out because a lot of users will benefit from it.
We adjusted the contrast of the pill colors so that they’re easier to see. The goal is to eventually become more accessible to everyone, including folks with Deuteranopia (or red-green color blindness). We're not quite there, yet, but this is a step in the right direction!
As we mentioned in our blog post, we're ultimately working towards reducing our reliance on colors all-together, so this is the first of many updates and improvements.I'll be sure to pass along your feedback to our designers, so they're aware. Let us know if you have any other questions. We're happy to help!

While I appreciate YNAB's commitment to continuously improving the software, I have to agree with the overwhelming majority here. The new color scheme makes the category balances more difficult to differentiate. As others have already stated, please change it back or give the users the option to change it. Which lends itself to another observation: It's curious that YNAB's user settings are as limited as they are (currency and number/date format).
Thanks in advance for your attention to this, and keep up the good work.

Hi Forest Green Stallion ! I'm so sorry to hear the changes aren't working for you and making it more difficult to read. I'll certainly pass that along! We made these changes in order to help with Deuteranopia, as we prepare to make larger changes to improve accessibility in the apps.
If you're comfortable, can you let me know which type of colorblindness you have? I can also reach out via email, if you prefer that. -
I am red-green colorblind and I can tell you that the new color scheme is NOT easier to differentiate. It is significantly harder to differentiate between the red and the green. I can't imagine how "washed out green" and "washed out red" is supposed to increase contrast. The categories look basically the same to me now. PLEASE revert to the original color scheme or make this a switchable option.

Hey Nicole , I have relatively mild Deuteranopia and this new color scheme is a BIG problem. Are you sure this palette wasn't designed to address a different type of vision issue? I can barely tell the colors apart by looking at each pill one at a time whereas before I could easily differentiate the colors on the whole page at a glance. Please add a toggle to allow us to use the old color scheme - this is a "the product is now broken for me" level of problem unfortunately.

Not to get political but as a straight white man who is colorblind this is like the first time I've encountered a business or system that isn't set up to accommodate me directly and, as a result, find myself at a disadvantage. Maybe YNAB is running a secret (and super frustrating) campaign to boost empathy.

I'm not colorblind so I cannot speak to that, but the lack of contrast also means it's easier to scroll through and miss the warning. I know some users want a gentler, nicer indicator 😉, but I would think ynab the method says that ynab the app should be yelling at me in red that I need to deal with my overspent category.
