Giveaway!

Hello, YNABers! We're hoping to get more folks to join the forum, so we're doing a little giveaway! We'll be sending a t-shirt and the YNAB book to five winners. We'd like to include new folks as well as current forum users, so even if you're not new, please participate!

So here's how it will work:

  • Leave a comment below with one thing you love about YNAB.
  • On Wednesday, 4/25 I will choose five people at random.
  • That day, I'll contact the winners privately to get some information so we can send a prize!

A few notes for new folks:

If you haven't created an account with the forum yet, you'll just need to do so before you can comment. Click 'Login' at the top of the screen. If you're already logged in to your budget in the same browser, you'll automatically be signed into the forum. If not, sign in with the same email and password you use to log in to the YNAB app.  If you haven't used YNAB before, you'll need to create an account first.

New folks will be assigned a random name, avatar, and username, but you can change your name and avatar if you like! Just click your user icon in the upper right corner and select Edit Profile.

  • Thanks, everybody for participating. This thread is full of so many wins and lovely stories. I think I'll be coming back to it for a long time!

I have picked five winners at random from among everyone who commented. If you won, you should have a private message from me now. If not, you sadly weren't picked, but we hope to do more of these, so maybe next time!

    Thanks again, everybody!

  • I love how YNAB takes money from my budgeted category, and applies it to my credit card when I use my credit card for purchases. Paid in full for the win!

  • The way YNAB handles credit cards was the hook for me. I have bought in to the rest of the system over time, but that's why I hit the subscribe button. This probably says more about me than YNAB, but the fact that to build ANY debt I have to go in and manually "budget" actual negative dollars on a credit card has changed my life.

  • I love that YNAB takes away the pain of looking at my account balances because I already know in detail what's going on there and the situation can't be worse than I thought anymore.

  • I love YNAB. period. The one thing that I have really benefited from is the clarity that YNAB affords me of my situation. With income that has not been always steady until recently, I always had trouble determining what I could actually afford, which YNAB has helped solve.

  • I love that YNAB helps me build up savings.  I already pay my credit cards in full each month, thanks YNAB.  YNAB lets me know I don't truly have $x to spend today, the job of those dollars is to buy a new car when my current one dies, or any of my other goals.

  • I love:

    • YNAB's ease of use
    • How customisable it is (emojis 😝)
    • The iPhone X app design
    • Being able to plan ahead with my purchases accurately
    • How it has made me enjoy entering every transaction and watching my net worth grow

  • As a new user of YNAB I like the fact that YNAB points me towards my financial future instead of the past. While the past shows spending patterns that can be corrected, the future is where my current dollars will be spent.

  • I love how YNAB lets me set aside money to pay for credit card purchases so I don't fall behind.

  • I love the way YNAB encourages much better awareness of my budget day-to-day as a living thing rather than a once a month deal. WAMing is just so much more a realistic real-world response to overspending.

  • I confess I really liked the old classic YNAB.
I got lost behind with the transition to new YNAB.
I've been meaning to get back into it (I've actually tried three times), but feel guilty that I'm paying the yearly subscription, but not taking advantage of it anymore.  :-(

Maroon Sidewinder Don't beat yourself up! It takes a few tries sometimes for a lot of people. You might like some of our classes for a little motivation. Maybe try "Restart Your YNAB Budget." www.ynab.com/classes

  • Three months into YNAB here!  I love how quickly using YNAB changed my mindset from "I'll put it on the credit card and make sure to pay it later" to "I don't have this money set aside, let me find out if I can afford it first." Seems small and obvious, but it didn't really click in my brain 'til I went all in with my budget.

  • I love that YNAB enables me to decide where my money goes. It helps me manage my own priorities, not tell me what they should be.

  • It forces me to assign a job to every dollar and only what I have. It is helping me with the financial structure I have been missing for the past 30 years. And the ease of getting an extended 3 month trial. YNAB support really wants you to succeed.

I'll share the haiku that I wrote about how YNAB has helped me when I applied for the part-time customer support position:

    A desert of debt

    Directionless wanderer

    Found the YNAB road

I love that YNAB has given me a direction to take when it comes to paying down my debt (how much I should pay down and month) and with YNAB I have been able to pay down my credit card multiple times.

    Thanks Ben!

  • I’ve been using since YNAB3. I just started the web YNAB this year. I love how the credit card works where budgeted amounts are rolled to credit card payment when CC is used. I really love the mobile app the best with how you can almost do everything you can like the web version. It really helps me understand better of where i am at and track and roll with the punches if needed at that moment.
