Two issues with the YNAB toolkit

I'm not sure where we're supposed to post questions and issues with the tookit, since it isn't developed by YNAB. I'm noticing two things after recently installing it:

1) Some of the category names in my budget are now highlighted in light blue and some budget amounts are highlighted in light green. I can't figure out any pattern for which ones and they are different for different months. I looked to see if it was some feature I had accidentally turned on, but I really don't see anything I could turn off there. Is this a bug or a feature, and if it's a feature how can I turn it off?

2) If I got under Tookit Reports and display a pie chart showing expenses either by payee or by category, then click on one of the expenses in the pie chart, it displays an error message and then refreshes YNAB. Based on how things work int he regular YNAB reports, what it SHOULD do is drill down into that category and show the transactions there. In any case it's annoying that it has to refresh YNAB after the error.

  • Same here on the Toolkit Reports. I brought it up as an issue on Github a few weeks ago but it doesn't like it anyone has fixed it. I know this is not a YNAB issue but damn it's frustrating. I have the same experience using either Chrome or Firefox.

  • The blue implies you have Goal Indicator Warning Color switched on. In native YNAB both underfunded categories and overspent categories have orange pills. With the Goal Indicator Warning Color feature switched on underfunded categories are shown in blue pills to distinguish them from overspent categories which remain orange.

    • monkeyhanger That feature was turned on briefly, but I turned it off because the clumsy wording was confusing me.  So, no, it's not on.

Green Nomad Did you save settings and reboot your budget after the changes?

Green Nomad I assumed so but I've learnt on here that it's always worth checking.

  • Hi Green Nomad !

You're right, we aren't able to offer support for the YNAB toolkit since we didn't create it.

However, you can report an issue on the Toolkit's Github Support page, like Orchid Cleric mentioned.

If these issues prove to be too frustrating, you can use YNAB without the extension by disabling it or using an Incognito/Private window until the issue is fixed. They're usually pretty quick about addressing issues! :)

If you're still experiencing any issues in an Incognito window, though, let me know!

  • Hey all. They fixed the "drill down" glitch with the YNAB Toolkit. Make sure you're using the latest release (2.13.0).

    • Orchid Cleric Not fixed for me! Do you know the bug number? I'll make a comment there.
